Improved Delivery of Methoxsalen
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1979Significant improvement in the effective bioavailability of methoxsalen was achieved when it was administered to rats and dogs in a solution as compared to a suspension. Much earlier and higher peak levels were observed for the solution in both animals.

Earlier observations by Fitzpatrick et al.1and others2-6suggested that methoxsalen, when taken internally and followed by exposure to sunlight, produced increased pigmentation and decreased burning of the skin. Controlled field trials in Arizona proved that pigmentation of the skin is augmented by the oral use of this drug.1However, the recent blind ...

This paper describes three cases of photoallergy to the phototoxic agent methoxsalen (8-methoxypsoralen). Compared to the usual phototoxic response, less time and less ultraviolet energy were required to evoke this photoallergic reaction. Clinically and histologically, the picture mimicked contact allergy. Closed patch tests, using in vitro ultraviolet
