A new chalcone derivative with promising antiproliferative and anti-invasion activities in glioblastoma cells [PDF]
Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and most deadly primary malignant brain tumor. Current therapies are not effective, the average survival of GBM patients after diagnosis being limited to few months.

Abstract Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most frequent primary intraocular malignancy in adults with high metastasis and mortality rate, whose effective therapeutic strategy is still in urgent need. Specifically, apoptosis-resistance is a great challenge for advanced UM patients, therefore novel therapeutic options targeting otherwise death modality,

CK2 phosphorylates the N terminus of ECE1c, impairing its proteasome‐dependent degradation and promoting invasiveness in colorectal cancer cells. We show that lys‐6 is the ubiquitinated residue and its mutation to arginine confers super‐stability to ECE1c.

The autophagy inducer trehalose stimulates macropinocytosis in NF1-deficient glioblastoma cells
Background Glioblastoma is a highly aggressive brain tumor. A big effort is required to find novel molecules which can cross the blood–brain barrier and efficiently kill these tumor cells.

Summary Vacuolar processing enzymes (VPEs) play an important role during regular growth and development and defence responses. Despite substantial attempts to understand the molecular basis of plant–cyst nematode interaction, the mechanism of VPEs functioning during this interaction remains unknown.

“Janus” efficacy of CX-5011: CK2 inhibition and methuosis induction by independent mechanisms
Methuosis has been described as a distinctive form of cell death characterized by the displacement of large fluid-filled vacuoles derived from uncontrolled macropinocytosis. Its induction has been proposed as a new strategy against cancer cells. Small molecules, such as indole-based calchones, have been identified as methuosis inducers and, recently ...

Investigation of Methuosis in Glioblastoma Cell Lines in Response to Treatment with Novel Chalcones
The knowledge of cell death mechanisms following cancer therapies is continuing to expand. What was formerly understood as either apoptotic or necrotic cell death has evolved with recent research into non‐classical cell death pathways. Our interest in non‐classical cell death pathways resulted from our recent investigations of synthetic chalcone ...

Tumor targeting gold nanoparticles for delivery of RNA and DNA oligonucleotide therapies for glioblastoma. [PDF]
Glioblastoma (GBM) brain tumors are highly aggressive gliomas due to genetic and cellular heterogeneity. Current GBM treatment consists of surgical resection of the tumor combined with radio- or chemo-therapies.

Inhibition of NPC1L1 disrupts adaptive responses of drug‐tolerant persister cells to chemotherapy
Entering a drug‐tolerant persister (DTP) state of cancer cells is a transient self‐adaptive mechanism by which a residual cell subpopulation accelerates tumor progression. Here, we identified the acquisition of a DTP phenotype in multidrug‐resistant (MDR)
