Contact dermatitis to methyl methacrylate

Contact Dermatitis, 1984
2 cases of contact dermatitis to methyl methacrylate monomer are presented. The patients are nurses who mixed bone cement at orthopedic operations. During the procedure, they used 2 pairs of gloves (latex). Butyl rubber gloves are recommended for methyl methacrylate monomer to avoid sensitization and/or cumulative irritant contact dermatitis on the ...

Fractography of poly(methyl methacrylates)

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1975
AbstractFor convenience in clinical manipulation, it is the practice to fabricate PMMA prostheses from mixtures of powder and monomer. When the monomer is subsequently polymerized an unusual 2‐phase polymeric material results in which grains of PMMA are dispersed in a matrix of the same polymer. The mechanical properties of the 2‐phase materials are ...

The transport of methyl methacrylate monomer in poly(methyl methacrylate)

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1975
The absorption kinetics and equlibria of methyl methacrylate monomer into poly(methyl methacrylate) were studied over a range of penetrant activities. The interval sorption kinetics at elevated activities were determined, compared, and contrasted with the integral sorption experiments in previously unpenetrated film samples.

Dendrimer/methyl methacrylate co-polymers: residual methyl methacrylate and degree of conversion

Journal of Biomaterials Science, Polymer Edition, 2005
Dendrimer/methyl methacrylate co-polymers were studied for use in dental composites. The aim was to determine the effects of methyl methacrylate concentration in the resin mixture and polymerization method on the degree of conversion and residual monomer content of the copolymers.

Methyl Methacrylate Restrictions

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1974
To the Editor.— I believe that a protest must be made regarding the position and actions taken by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in relationship to the use of methyl methacrylate. I think there is justification for the FDA to evaluate new and experimental drugs and to control these drugs in relationship to the toxicity and possible harm that ...

Methyl methacrylate in poly(methyl methacrylate)—validation of direct injection gas chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 2004
Gas chromatography (GC) was investigated for the determination of residual methyl methacrylate (MMA) in heat-processed poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) denture base material emphasizing recovery and validation. Standard solutions of MMA and emulsion-polymerized PMMA in dichloromethane were analysed, before and after distillation by a room-temperature ...

1H-NMR study of interactions in the systems methyl methacrylate-dimethylformamide and methyl methacrylate-poly(methyl methacrylate-dimethylformamide

European Polymer Journal, 1977
Abstract The temperature dependence of chemical shifts in 1 H-NMR spectra of solutions of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in various solvents revealed specific interaction of MMA molecules with dimethylformamide (DMF). In the system MMA-poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)-DMF, PMMA acts as a further component interacting with MMA.

Methyl methacrylate cranioplasty.

The Medical journal of Malaysia, 2005
We conducted a prospective study in order to audit our experience of repairing cranial defects using Methyl methacrylate. This included a total of 49 patients undergoing cranioplasty using methyl methacrylate, of which 45 were males and 4 females. The age of patients at the time of surgery ranged from 16 to 40 years old, with an average of 24 years ...

Poly(methyl methacrylate)

2009
Abstract Special Properties Optically clear (92% transmission, theoretical limit for normal incidence, in the visible region) through the visible wavelength range; very little ultra-violet absorption until 260 nm. Major Applications Replacement for glass. Good mechanical properties. Can be used in various biomedical applications.
