The copolymerisation of tetrahydrofurfuryl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate

Polymer Gels and Networks, 1996
Abstract The bulk copolymerisations of tetrahydrofurfuryl methacrylate, THFMA, and methyl methacrylate, MMA, were carried to low conversion at 60 °C, using benzoyl peroxide, BPO, as the initiator. The compositions of the copolymers were determined using 13C NMR spectroscopy.

The initiation of polymerization of methyl methacrylate by the poly(methyl methacrylate) anion

Journal of Polymer Science, 1960
AbstractAddition of methyl methacrylate monomer to poly(methyl methacrylate) which has been polymerized with fluorenyllithium or sodium‐naphthalene in tetrahydrofuran at −78°C. produces high conversion of monomer to polymer. By a comparison of the number‐average molecular weights before and after the addition of the second monomer, it is demonstrated ...

Antibacterial Adhesion of Poly(methyl methacrylate) Modified by Borneol Acrylate.

ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, 2016
Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is a widely used biomaterial. But there is still a challenge facing its unwanted bacterial adhesion because the subsequent biofilm formation usually leads to failure of related implants.

Contact dermatitis to methyl methacrylate

Contact Dermatitis, 1984
2 cases of contact dermatitis to methyl methacrylate monomer are presented. The patients are nurses who mixed bone cement at orthopedic operations. During the procedure, they used 2 pairs of gloves (latex). Butyl rubber gloves are recommended for methyl methacrylate monomer to avoid sensitization and/or cumulative irritant contact dermatitis on the ...

1H-NMR study of interactions in the systems methyl methacrylate-dimethylformamide and methyl methacrylate-poly(methyl methacrylate-dimethylformamide

European Polymer Journal, 1977
Abstract The temperature dependence of chemical shifts in 1 H-NMR spectra of solutions of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in various solvents revealed specific interaction of MMA molecules with dimethylformamide (DMF). In the system MMA-poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)-DMF, PMMA acts as a further component interacting with MMA.

Fractography of poly(methyl methacrylates)

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1975
AbstractFor convenience in clinical manipulation, it is the practice to fabricate PMMA prostheses from mixtures of powder and monomer. When the monomer is subsequently polymerized an unusual 2‐phase polymeric material results in which grains of PMMA are dispersed in a matrix of the same polymer. The mechanical properties of the 2‐phase materials are ...

Refractive index measurements of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) from 0.4-1.6 μm.

Applied Optics, 2015
Using a transmission-spectrum-based method, the refractive index of a 50 μm thick sample of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was measured as a function of wavelength.

On the fate of methyl methacrylate in blood

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1977
AbstractThe fate of methyl methacrylate in fresh human blood was investigated in vitro by using gas chromatography. It was found that methyl methacrylate is present in cells in concentrations twice as large as in plasma, but it disappears exponentially with time at a rate that is at least 10 times faster than that in cells.

Polymerization of Methyl Methacrylate with the Carbon Tetrachloride/Dichlorotris- (triphenylphosphine)ruthenium(II)/Methylaluminum Bis(2,6-di-tert-butylphenoxide) Initiating System: Possibility of Living Radical Polymerization

, 1995
Introduction. Because of the virtual absence of chain transfer, termination, and other side reactions, living polymerization is among the best methods for the synthesis of polymers with controlled molecular weights and architecture^.^ It is therefore not
