Termination Mechanism in the Radical Polymerization of Methyl Methacrylate and Styrene Determined by the Reaction of Structurally Well-Defined Polymer End Radicals

, 2015
A novel method to determine the termination mechanism of radical polymerization, i.e., the selectivity between disproportionation (Disp) and combination (Comb), is developed.

Radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of isotactic poly(methyl methacrylate)

Journal of Polymer Science Part A-1: Polymer Chemistry, 1972
AbstractMethyl methacrylate (MMA) was polymerized by radical initiation at 25°C in DMF in the presence of preformed isotactic PMMA (iMA) with about 90% isotactic triads and different M̄v's, viz., iMA‐1: 7.2 × 105; iMA‐2, 5.0 × 105; iMA‐3, 3.5 × 105; iMA‐4, 1.25 × 105; and iMA‐5, 1.15 × 105. The MMA:iMA ratio was 6:1.

Methyl Methacrylate Restrictions

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1974
To the Editor.— I believe that a protest must be made regarding the position and actions taken by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in relationship to the use of methyl methacrylate. I think there is justification for the FDA to evaluate new and experimental drugs and to control these drugs in relationship to the toxicity and possible harm that ...

Copolymerization of styrene and methyl methacrylate photosensitized by a methyl methacrylate‐triethylaluminium complex

Journal of Polymer Science: Polymer Symposia, 1976
AbstractWe have re‐examined the copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and styrene in the presence of triethylaluminium at 273°K under visible light following recent claims that it was an alternating system. We applied gel‐permeation chromatography to establish that the polymers had monomodal distributions and could be regarded as coherent ...

Toxicology of methyl methacrylate: The rate of disappearance of methyl methacrylate in human blood in vitro

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1976
1. The rate of disappearance of methyl methacrylate in blood has been determined using an isotope dilution technique. 2. At a concentration of 10(-4) mol dm(-3), methyl methacrylate disappears with pseudo first order kinetics. 3. The half-life of methyl methacrylate in blood at 37 degrees C lies in the range 20--40 min. 4.

Simulation of radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate at room temperature using a tertiary amine/BPO initiating system

, 2015
The decomposition kinetics of the initiation reaction between benzoyl peroxide and a tertiary amine, either dimethyl-p-toluidine or dihydroxyethyl-p-toluidine, was studied by infrared spectroscopy and an Arrhenius plot was established.

Methyl methacrylate in poly(methyl methacrylate)—validation of direct injection gas chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 2004
Gas chromatography (GC) was investigated for the determination of residual methyl methacrylate (MMA) in heat-processed poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) denture base material emphasizing recovery and validation. Standard solutions of MMA and emulsion-polymerized PMMA in dichloromethane were analysed, before and after distillation by a room-temperature ...

Dendrimer/methyl methacrylate co-polymers: residual methyl methacrylate and degree of conversion

Journal of Biomaterials Science, Polymer Edition, 2005
Dendrimer/methyl methacrylate co-polymers were studied for use in dental composites. The aim was to determine the effects of methyl methacrylate concentration in the resin mixture and polymerization method on the degree of conversion and residual monomer content of the copolymers.

The structure of poly(methyl methacrylate)

Journal of Polymer Science: Polymer Letters Edition, 1978
n this short communication the authors discuss the molecular structure of isotactic PMMA in the light of recently published statement by Japanese researchers that this structure consists of two essentially trans-chains forming a double helix. A brief argument against this state is concluded with an opinion that the structure of isotactic PMMA should be

Sub-5 nm Domains in Ordered Poly(cyclohexylethylene)-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) Block Polymers for Lithography

, 2014
A series of poly(cyclohexylethylene)-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PCHE–PMMA) diblock copolymers with varying molar mass (4.9 kg/mol ≤ Mn ≤ 30.6 kg/mol) and narrow molar mass distribution were synthesized through a combination of anionic and atom ...
