CryoSift: an accessible and automated CNN‐driven tool for cryo‐EM 2D class selection

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section F, Volume 81, Issue 12, Page 517-526, December 2025.
CryoSift is a CNN‐based tool that assesses the quality of 2D class averages. The incorporation of CryoSift into cryoSPARC workflows enables automated particle‐stack cleaning.Single‐particle cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) has become an essential tool in structural biology.

The Development of the Vascular System in Quail Embryos: A Combination of Microvascular Corrosion Casts and Immunohistochemical Identification [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Although vascular casts, obtained by injection with methacrylates, are frequently used to investigate the adult vascular system, little data are available for embryonic stages.

In vitro analysis of monomer leaching in modern dental materials: CAD milled, printed, traditional heat‐processed, and auto‐polymerizing denture base resins

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, Volume 34, Issue 9, Page 988-992, December 2025.
Abstract Purpose Denture fabrication has shifted from traditional heat‐processed and auto‐polymerizing materials to computer‐aided design and computer‐aided manufacturing (CAD‐CAM) milled and printed materials. The monomer in traditional materials can induce an allergic reaction in some patients.

Validation of Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometry as a Method to Standardize Backscattered Electron Images of Bone [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The use of backscattered electron (BSE) imaging as a tool for the qualitative measurement of mineral content in bone has been well documented. The challenge still remains to develop BSE imaging as a tool for quantitative mineral content analysis in bone.

Loss of the RNA Binding Protein HuR in Early Murine Limb Mesenchyme Does Not Affect Development but Leads to Impaired Bone Homeostasis in Adulthood

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 22, 30 November 2025.
The RNA‐binding protein HuR (Elavl1) is essential for limb development. In germline HuR knockouts, apical ectodermal ridge signaling is lost, though mesenchymal signals persist. Mesenchyme‐specific HuR deletion does not affect embryonic limbs, but adult mutants are affected and exhibit markedly reduced trabecular bone density.

Consistency in Calibrated Backscattered Electron Images of Calcified Tissues and Minerals Analyzed in Multiple Imaging Sessions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Pure metal standards have been used to calibrate the operating environment in quantitative backscattered electron (BSE) imaging of mineralized tissue, allowing comparisons to be made between various mineralization states of bone at the microscopic level.

Microvascular Corrosion Casting of the Lung. A State-of-the-Art Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Corrosion casting and viewing of replicas with the scanning electron microscope is an excellent way to study the microvascular structure of the lung. This method can demonstrate aspects of the three-dimensional relationships, branching patterns, maximum ...
