Rebound Effects of Digital Textile Microfactories in Fashion, a System Dynamics Study of CO2 Emissions

open access: yesSystems Research and Behavioral Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The fashion industry's high resource use and globalised supply chains generate environmental degradation through overproduction, waste and pollution. Digital Textile Microfactories (DTMFs) are promoted as a more sustainable alternative because they enable fast, digitalised and often localised production, but lower costs and a greener image may

Season and human footprint weaken the negative effect of temperature on the intraspecific metabolic scaling exponent of wild brown trout populations

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
We apply a new parameterized model through linking metabolic scaling and the maximum entropy theory of ecology to quantify the intraspecific metabolic scaling exponent of brown trout populations and assess the main drivers shaping the exponent. Abstract Metabolic scaling fundamentally sets the pace of life in almost all organisms.

Dirac equation on a G_2 manifold [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We find a large family of solutions to the Dirac equation on a manifold of $G_2$ holonomy asymptotic to a cone over $S^3 \times S^3$, including all radial solutions.

International Guideline on the Diagnosis and Management of Pediatric Patients With Hereditary Angioedema

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hereditary angioedema (HAE) with C1 inhibitor deficiency is a rare disease characterized by unpredictable episodes of tissue swelling (angioedema), which, in most cases, occur first under the age of 18 years, and entail a significant burden of disease not only for the patients but also for their families.

Electrochemical synthesis of peroxomonophosphate using boron-doped diamond anodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A new method for the synthesis of peroxomonophosphate, based on the use of boron-doped diamond electrodes, is described. The amount of oxidant electrogenerated depends on the characteristics of the supporting media (pH and solute concentration) and on ...

The circulation and distribution of classical Greek coinage

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, EarlyView.
Abstract From a sample of the most prominent Greek city‐states, data involving a total of 999 hoards and 160,007 coins from 550 to 300 BC were collected to discern the relative magnitudes, consistency of issue, and distribution of Classical Greek coinages.

Beyond Brunhild: reassessing women in the Fredegar Chronicle

open access: yesEarly Medieval Europe, EarlyView.
Scholarly consideration of women in the seventh‐century Fredegar chronicle has long been dominated by the author’s hostility towards Brunhild, queen of Austrasia. Statistical analysis of Latin world chronicles before ad 900, however, shows that Fredegar’s representation of women was unusually high within this tradition.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions: A review and research agenda on rebound effects and win–win strategies

open access: yesInternational Journal of Management Reviews, EarlyView.
Abstract Rebound effects describe how efficiency improvements in energy or resource use can increase demand, thereby partially or fully offsetting expected environmental savings. This dynamic complicates win–win strategies that aim to improve environmental and financial performance.

Interval identification of FMR parameters for spin reorientation transition in (Ga,Mn)As

open access: yes, 2012
In this work we report results of ferromagnetic resonance studies of a 6% 15 nm (Ga,Mn)As layer, deposited on (001)-oriented GaAs. The measurements were performed with in-plane oriented magnetic field, in the temperature range between 5K and 120K.

On language, (inter)disciplinarity, and collaboration with local scholars in Papua New Guinea environmental anthropology

open access: yesThe Australian Journal of Anthropology, EarlyView.
Abstract How can anthropologists ensure the accuracy of the statements they make in their publications, especially in an era of ever increasing budgetary and bureaucratic pressures that limit the duration of fieldwork? What should the role of language abilities be in this context and to what degree is it necessary to learn the language of the place ...
