Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Enhancing Fingerprint Localization Accuracy With Inverse Weight-Normalized Context Similarity Coefficient-Based Fingerprint Similarity Metric

open access: yesIEEE Access
Distance-based metrics are the most common fingerprint similarity metrics used in fingerprint database clustering and localization processes in a fingerprint-based localization system.

Entanglement distance for an arbitrary state of M qubits

open access: yes, 2019
We propose a measure of entanglement that can be computed for any pure state of an $M$-qubit system. The entanglement measure has the form of a distance that we derive from an adapted application of the Fubini-Study metric.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

NASA metric transition plan [PDF]

open access: yes
NASA science publications have used the metric system of measurement since 1970. Although NASA has maintained a metric use policy since 1979, practical constraints have restricted actual use of metric units. In 1988, an amendment to the Metric Conversion

Quantum toy-model escape to Jordan-block horizon

open access: yes, 2013
An an exactly solvable quantum model is found to sample the evolution towards the sudden and complete loss of observability. For the purpose we choose an N-level system. While the time runs from 0 to 1, the process (leading to the collapse) is controlled

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...
