An Algorithmic Framework for Labeling Network Maps

open access: yes, 2015
Drawing network maps automatically comprises two challenging steps, namely laying out the map and placing non-overlapping labels. In this paper we tackle the problem of labeling an already existing network map considering the application of metro maps ...

Teria o Metro-Padrão um metro?

open access: yesPrincipia: an international journal of epistemology, 2016
http://dx.doi.org/10.5007/1808-1711.2015v19n3p465Saul Kripke (1972) argued for the existence of a priori propositions that are contingently true. Kripke uses the example of a case presented by Wittgenstein (1953) about the Standard Meter of Paris. The Standard Meter is an object to determine the standard lenght, in the measure system, of a one meter ...

Additive Manufacturing of Patient‐Specific Intracranial Aneurysm Cell Culture Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Patient‐specific intracranial aneurysm models were fabricated using chocolate moulding, 3D printed water‐soluble cores, and direct resin 3D printing. Moulding PDMS around sacrificial cores made of chocolate or 3D printed water‐soluble resin yielded accurate, expandable, and endothelializable models that outperformed resin‐based approaches.

Asymmetry in Skipping Enhances Viability Against Control Input Noise

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Quadruped animals use asymmetric galloping gaits at high speeds, yet the functional role of this asymmetry remains unclear. This study shows that left–right asymmetry in touchdown angles enhances robustness to control noise. Using a simple two‐legged locomotion model and viability theory, it demonstrates that asymmetric skipping substantially enlarges ...
