Laboratory test for EPB tunnelling assessment:results of test campaign on two different granular soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Earth Pressure Balanced shields are currently the most utilized tunnelling machines throughout around the world. The possibility of using conditioning agents that change the mechanical and hydraulic behaviour of a soil, changing it into a plastic paste ...

Suitability of equivalent linear soil models for analysing the seismic response of a concrete tunnel. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Current methods of analysis for the seismic response of tunnels rely on linear elastic soil constitutive behaviour. This has obvious benefits in terms of minimising the number of soil parameters required and the complexity compared to more sophisticated ...

Failure mechanism of the coal wall at the working face based on an eccentric compression mechanical model

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
In this study, the nonuniform distribution of the bearing pressure in front of the coal wall has been revealed based on in situ monitoring data and numerical simulation results. Therefore, an eccentric compression mechanical model of the coal wall was established to study the deformation and failure characteristics of a coal wall. The slenderness ratio

Microscopic time‐dependent mechanical behavior of shale derived from nanoindentation

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study conducted grid nanoindentation creep tests to systematically analyze the microscopic creep behaviors of shale. Based on the analysis of creep strain rate sensitivity, the primary mechanism of microscopic creep in shale was found to be the extension and closure of microcracks.
