Luminescent Donor‐Acceptor Radical With Propeller Chirality: Bright and Photostable Red Circularly Polarized Luminescence and Whispering Gallery Mode Resonance

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A series of donor‐attached brominated chiral luminescent radicals (CzTTBrM, 2CzTTBrM, and 3CzTTBrM) was synthesized, showing red to near‐infrared (NIR) circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) with exceptionally high PLQY of up to 76% and markedly enhanced CPL brightness (BCPL). Doping into polystyrene microspheres further yields whispering gallery mode

Environmental Racism in the Accessibility of Urban Green Space: A Case Study of a Metropolitan Area in an Emerging Economy

open access: yesUrban Science
Urban Green Spaces (UGS) are integral to advancing urban sustainability and improving the quality of life in cities. However, in rapidly urbanizing regions like the São Paulo Metropolitan Region (MRSP), significant environmental injustices in UGS ...

Metropolitan Vulnerability and Strategic Roles for Periurban Agricultural Territories in the Context of Climate Change and Variability

open access: yesCuadernos de Geografía: Revista Colombiana de Geografía, 2013
Metropolitan regions are vulnerable to climate change from several perspectives. Their rural territories support many strategic roles essential for the quality of life in these regions, including their contribution to food security.

Spatial integration in European cross-border metropolitan regions: A comparative approach [PDF]

open access: yes
This article analyses the process of spatial integration in ten European cross-border metropolitan regions. On the basis of three indicators, relating to flows of cross-border commuters, gross domestic product and the housing market, it suggests that ...

Some Like it Hot, Some Like it Cold, Most Like it Here: Forecasting Retirement in the Chicago Region [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Over the next 20 years, an explosion of senior citizens who will opt to retire in the region rather than move away will change the face of the Chicago metropolitan region dramatically.

Explaining the Origin of Negative Poisson's Ratio in Amorphous Networks With Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This review summarizes how machine learning (ML) breaks the “vicious cycle” in designing auxetic amorphous networks. By transitioning from traditional “black‐box” optimization to an interpretable “AI‐Physics” closed‐loop paradigm, ML is shown to not only discover highly optimized structures—such as all‐convex polygon networks—but also unveil hidden ...

Uncovering renewable energy policy impact channels on land values, the local farm structure, and farmland heterogeneity

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Germany's Renewable Energy Sources Act (REA), enacted in 2000 and subsequently amended, subsidized national renewable energy production with fixed feed‐in tariffs for renewable energy sources (RE) from wind, solar, and biogas. Empirical studies suggest that the policy was creating windfall effects for landowners and attribute farmland use ...

Domino Polymerization for the Synthesis of Reductively Degradable Poly(disulfide)s With Arbitrary Side‐Chain Structures

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We developed a novel domino polymerization to synthesize reductively degradable poly(disulfide)s with tunable side chains. A novel monomer bearing thiolactone and pyridyl disulfide groups reacts with various amines, enabling continuous ring‐opening and disulfide exchange.
