Alloying behaviors of AgMg, AuMg and AgAl alloys

Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, 1974
Abstract An expression of the structure-dependent energy of simple metal-noble metal binary alloy is given on the basis of the pseudopotential method. The energy is expressed as a sum of three parts; a band-structure energy, an electrostatic energy and a repulsive overlap energy, each of which is characterized by the usual long-range and short-range ...

Thermochemical investigation of Sm–Mg alloys

Calphad, 2014
Abstract The paper focuses on the thermochemical behaviour of the binary Sm–Mg alloys. The enthalpies of formation of the Sm–Mg intermetallic compounds have been determined at 300 K by high temperature direct synthesis calorimetry. The following results in kJ/mole of atoms are reported: −18.5±2 (SmMg), −16.0±2 (SmMg 2 ), −12.0±2 (SmMg 3 ), −8.5±2 ...

Biodegradable Mg and Mg alloys: Corrosion and biocompatibility

Materials Science and Engineering: B, 2011
Abstract This review discusses the current state and challenges in understanding Mg alloy corrosion behavior, in view of use of these materials for biodegradable implants. After the description of some basic and specific aspects of Mg alloy corrosion, the influence of specific biological environments on the corrosion behavior of Mg alloys is ...

New Method for the Corrosion Resistance of AZ31 Mg Alloy with a Porous Micro-Arc Oxidation Membrane as an Ionic Corrosion Inhibitor Container.

Langmuir, 2018
This work introduces a new composite anticorrosion coating for the AZ31 magnesium alloy, based on the synergistic effect of an organic/inorganic composite coating with a micro- and nanoporous micro-arc oxidation (MAO) membrane as the container of ionic ...

Enhanced Corrosion Barrier of Microarc-Oxidized Mg Alloy by Self-Healing Superhydrophobic Silica Coating

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2018
Microarc oxidation (MAO) is a common surface treatment technology for Mg alloys. The MAO layer, however, often fails to provide long-term protection due to its inherent porosity.

Amorphization of MgZn alloys by mechanical alloying

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1989
Abstract We report for the first time on the synthesis of magnesium-based amorphous alloy powders using mechanical grinding. We synthesize an amorphous powder of the nominal composition Mg 70 Zn 30 . Using X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) we analyse the details of the magnesium reaction as well as the crystallization ...

Mechanical alloying and milling of Al–Mg alloys

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2009
Abstract Solid solubility extension of Mg in Al was achieved for the binary Al–Mg system in the range of 10–40 at.% Mg by mechanical alloying of elemental powder mixtures and by mechanical milling of pre-alloyed ingots. No indication for the formation of the equilibrium phases (β-Al3Mg2 and γ-Al12Mg17) after milling was observed.

Mg Based Alloys Obtained by Mechanical Alloying

Materials Science Forum, 1998
In the present work, we studied the production of magnesium alloys, of stoichiometry 2Mg + Ni, by mechanical alloying (MA) and the behavior of the alloys under hydrogen in a Sievert's type apparatus. The elemental powders were milled under argon atmosphere in a Spex 8000 high energy ball mill.

Sacrificial Cathodic Protection of Mg Alloy AZ31B by an Mg–5Sn Surface Alloy

2019
A solid solution Mg–5Sn alloy is evaluated as a sacrificial anode for the cathodic protection of AZ31B. Uncoupled Mg–5Sn is shown to have superior barrier properties and reduced cathodic kinetics relative to AZ31B. The performance as a sacrificial anode was studied in situ with global and local measurements of galvanic coupling between the Mg–5Sn alloy

Synthesis of Mg-Ti alloy by mechanical alloying

Journal of Materials Science, 2003
Mg-based Mg-Ti binary alloys have been synthesized by mechanical alloying of Mg and Ti powder blends. It was found that mechanical alloying of Mg and Ti results in a nanocrystalline Mg-Ti alloy and an extended solubility of Ti in Mg, due to the favorable size factor and the isomorphous structure of Mg and Ti.
