Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Fabrication of quaternary Mg-Zn-Y-Ce quasi-crystal alloys and their strengthening effects on AZ91 magnesium alloys [PDF]
Quaternary Mg-Zn-Y-Ce quasi-crystal-containing alloys were fabricated using a metal mold casting route. The microstructures of Mg-Zn-Y-Ce alloys and the distribution of the major elements were analyzed.

Solution strengthening and age hardening capability of Al-Mg-Mn alloys with small additions of Cu
Nine Al-(1-3)Mg-(0-0.4)Cu-0.15Si-0.25Mn (in wt%) alloys with potential applications in both packaging and automotive industries have been investigated. Tensile testing showed that solution strengthening is in good approximation linearly proportional to ...

Feasibility of Nitrogen as a Carrier Gas for Inconel Cold Spray in Hydropower Application
N2, despite being nearly two orders of magnitude cheaper than He, is a feasible carrier gas for cold spray Inconel coatings in hydropower repair applications when higher gas temperature and pressure are used. Reducing powder size significantly improved cavitation resistance, while the addition of fine chromium carbide particles further enhanced erosion

This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...

Si‐doped AlCoCrFeNi high‐entropy alloys are synthesized by mechanical alloying to reveal the effect of Si content and milling time on phase evolution, microstructural refinement, and tribological behavior. A transition from FCC to BCC structure, significant grain refinement, and enhanced hardness and wear resistance are achieved, with the 4 at% Si ...

Unveiling the interface between second phases and matrix on thermal conductivity of Mg alloys
Solute atoms and second phases with low thermal conductivity are habitually regarded as the factors to the thermal conductivity of alloys. Nevertheless, the interface that is usually neglected can also be a noteworthy factor influencing the thermal ...
