A placebo-controlled, double-blind, randomized controlled trial of a natural killer cell stimulant (BioBran MGN-3) in chronic fatigue syndrome [PDF]

open access: yesQJM, 2006
Previous research has suggested that natural killer (NK) cell activity may be reduced in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).To evaluate the effectiveness of a putative NK cell stimulant, BioBran MGN-3, in reducing fatigue in CFS patients.Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. We recruited 71 patients with CFS (according to the ...

A Case of Concurrent MPO-/PR3-Negative ANCA-Associated Glomerulonephritis and Membranous Glomerulopathy

open access: yesCase Reports in Nephrology, 2015
We report a case in which antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody- (ANCA-) associated glomerulonephritis and membranous glomerulopathy (MGN) were detected concurrently. The patient showed rapidly progressive renal deterioration.

Chemopreventive Activity of MGN-3/Biobran Against Chemical Induction of Glandular Stomach Carcinogenesis in Rats and Its Apoptotic Effect in Gastric Cancer Cells. [PDF]

open access: yesIntegr Cancer Ther, 2016
In the current study, we investigated the chemopreventive activity of arabinoxylan rice bran, MGN-3/Biobran, against chemical induction of glandular stomach carcinogenesis in rats. Gastric cancer was induced by carcinogen methylnitronitrosoguanidine (MNNG), and rats received MNNG alone or MNNG plus Biobran (40 mg/kg body weight) for a total of 8 months.

Protective effects of adiponectin receptor agonists against equine lamellar endoplasmic reticulum stress

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Lamellar endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress occurs in hyperinsulinemia‐associated and sepsis‐related laminitis. Adiponectin is associated with reduced laminitis risk and inhibits ER stress in other species. Objectives To induce ER stress in ex vivo equine lamellar cells using pharmacological agents.

Analysis of Reject Water Formed in the Mechanical Dewatering Process of Digested Sludge Conditioned by Physical and Chemical Methods

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Reject water separated from digested sludge may be a potential source of nutrients due to its high content. However, most often, reject water after sludge dewatering is directed to sewage lines at wastewater treatment plants, negatively affecting their ...

Development of a prognostic scoring system for systemic inflammatory response syndrome in donkeys

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) is associated with increased mortality in horses with gastrointestinal (GI) disease. However, there are no data relating to naturally occurring SIRS in donkeys. Objectives To determine SIRS frequency in donkeys with GI disease. To develop a donkey‐specific prognostic SIRS score.

Evaluation of a new immunoassay for measuring equine serum insulin and plasma adrenocorticotrophic hormone: A method comparison study

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Insulin dysregulation (ID) and pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) are common equine endocrinopathies detected by measurement of circulating insulin and adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) concentrations. Different assays may yield variable results, limiting comparability.
