Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

Experimental Investigation of Thermal Stability and Enthalpy of Eutectic Alkali Metal Solar Salt Dispersed with MgO Nanoparticles

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology, 2019
In this study, nanocomposites containing a pre-defined mass ratio of solar salt (NaNO3-KNO3: 60-40 wt.%) dispersed with magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles with nominal sizes of 100 nm were prepared in solid and liquid states. The proposed amounts of

Toughening β‐Ga2O3 via Mechanically Seeded Dislocations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
β‐Ga2O3 is promising for next‐generation semiconductors but its brittleness limits flexible and high‐precision applications. Here, mechanically seeded dislocations introduced by surface deformation improved damage tolerance in (001) β‐Ga2O3. Nanoindentation and characterization show dislocations suppress cleavage cracks by enabling stable plastic ...

Chiral Nanohoops as an Efficient Spin Polarization System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral conjugated nanohoops with a central dibenzopentalene unit exhibit 90% spin polarization at low voltage and high conductivity. These properties make them ideal components in molecular spintronics applications. Abstract A central challenge in molecular spintronics is to achieve a high spin polarization at low operating voltages and ambient ...

The comparison of mechanical behavior of MgO–MgAl2O4 with MgO–ZrO2 and MgO–MgAl2O4–ZrSiO4 composite refractories

open access: yesCeramics International, 2012
Abstract Mechanical properties of different compositions obtained from the additions of 5, 10, 20 and 30 wt.% zircon (ZrSiO 4 ) into the MgO–spinel composite refractories and ZrO 2 into MgO have been examined, the variations that occurred have been determined, and the parameters affecting those factors have been investigated with the reasons.

Temperature‐Induced Nonvolatile Switching through Thermal Hysteresis in a Gd3Fe5O12/Ho3Fe5O12 Exchange‐Coupled Rare‐Earth Iron Garnet Bilayer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Reducing power consumption in spintronic memory remains a major challenge due to the need for high current densities. A bilayer of gadolinium and holmium iron garnets enables purely temperature‐induced, nonvolatile magnetic switching with bistable states within a ±25 K range. This approach achieves up to 66‐fold lower energy use than current spin–orbit
