On Liouville type theorems for the stationary MHD and Hall-MHD systems

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper we prove a Liouville type theorem for the stationary magnetohydrodynamics(MHD) system in $\Bbb R^3$. Let $(v, B, p)$ be a smooth solution to the stationary MHD equations in $\Bbb R^3$. We show that if there exist smooth matrix valued potential functions ${\bf }$, ${\bf }$ such that $ \nabla \cdot {\bf } =v$ and $\nabla \cdot {\bf }

Auroral and Non‐Auroral H3+ Ion Winds at Uranus With Keck‐NIRSPEC and IRTF‐iSHELL

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 7, 16 April 2025.
Abstract To date, no investigation has documented ionospheric flows at Uranus. Previous investigations of Jupiter and Saturn have demonstrated that mapping ion winds can be used to understand ionospheric currents and how these connect to magnetosphere‐ionosphere coupling.

Control of the Jovian Magnetopause by Iogenic Plasma: Initial Results From Global MHD Simulations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 7, 16 April 2025.
Abstract The size and variability of Jupiter's magnetosphere are not only determined by upstream conditions but also substantially influenced by internal processes within Jupiter's magnetosphere, specifically the dynamics of the rotation magnetodisc.

Development of a gyrokinetic-MHD energetic particle simulation code Part I: MHD version [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
A new magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) code based on initial value approach, GMEC_I, has been developed for simulating various MHD physics in tokamak plasmas, as the MHD foundation of the gyrokinetic-MHD energetic particle simulation code (GMEC) family. GMEC_I solves multi-level reduced-MHD models that form a hierarchy of physics complexity, which provide ...

VMS Finite Element for MHD and Reduced-MHD in Tokamak Plasmas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The understanding of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) instabilities is quite essential for the optimization of magnetically confined plasmas, a subject raising increasing interest as tokamak reactor design advances and projects such as ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) develop.

Observational Characteristics of Electron Distributions in the Martian Induced Magnetotail

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 7, 16 April 2025.
Abstract Mars's magnetotail represents a unique case within the solar system, embodying both intrinsic and induced magnetic fields. Yet, the electron dynamics within this region have remained largely unexplored. Utilizing nine years of electron and magnetic field data from the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN mission (MAVEN), we conducted a ...
