PCBs and PBBs: Biologic and toxic effects on C57BL/6J and DBA/2J inbred mice

Toxicology, 1984
Treatment of genetically inbred "responsive" C57BL/6J and "non-responsive" DBA/2J mice with Aroclor 1254 or fireMaster BP-6 resulted in the induction of hepatic microsomal benzo[a]pyrene hydroxylase only in the former mouse strain and aminopyrine N-demethylase in both strains of mice.

A note on behavioral divergence between two substrains of DBA/2 inbred mice

Behavior Genetics, 1986
Adult male mice from the substrains DBA/2JNmg and DBA/2J were individually placed into a novel environment and compared for nine behavioral components. The substrains differed in three vertically oriented exploratory acts, the latter showing the highest rates.

Genotypic differences in mesolimbic enkephalin gene expression in DBA/2J and C57BL/6J inbred mice

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1996
The DBA/2J and C57BL/6J (herein referred to as DBA and C57) inbred mouse strains exhibit low and high predispositions for voluntary ethanol consumption, respectively, but the neurobiological basis underlying this differential drug vulnerability remains poorly understood. Comparison of endogenous brain proenkephalin gene expression showed the C57 mouse,

Characterization of cortical spindles in DBA/2 and C57BL/6 inbred mice

Brain Research Bulletin, 1984
Continuous twenty-four hour EEG recordings were conducted on freely-moving DBA/2 and C57BL/6 inbred mice. No brief spindle episodes (BSEs: 6-7 cps, 1-5 sec duration, high amplitude spindle bursts) were seen in the waking EEG of C57BL/6 mice. BSEs were a conspicuous element of the EEG during active waking (AW) and quiet waking (QW) in DBA/2 mice.

The differences shown by C57BL/6 and DBA/2 inbred mice in detecting spatial novelty are subserved by a different hippocampal and parietal cortex interplay

Behavioural Brain Research, 1996
Inbred C57BL/6 (C57) and DBA/2 (DBA) mice with hippocampus, posterior parietal cortex or sham lesions were placed in an open-field containing five objects and their reactivity to the displacement (spatial novelty) or the substitution (object novelty) of some of these objects was examined.

Role of endogenous enkephalins in locomotion and nociception studied with peptidase inhibitors in two inbred strains of mice (C57BL/6J AND DBA/2J)

Neuropharmacology, 1989
Acetorphan, a parenterally active enkephalinase inhibitor, induced dose-dependently a naloxone-reversible analgesia on the hot-plate jump test in DBA/2J (DBA2) mice but was devoid of effects in C57BL/6J (C57) mice. By contrast, acetorphan increased locomotion in both strains; however, the DBA2 strain was much more sensitive than C57 mice to the ...

Characterization of the Discriminative Stimulus Effects of the Neuroactive Steroid Pregnanolone in DBA/2J and C57BL/6J Inbred Mice

The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 2005
Neurosteroids represent a class of endogenous compounds that exert rapid, nongenomic effects through neurotransmitter receptor systems such as GABA(A). Two neurosteroids, allopregnanolone (3alpha-hydroxy-5alpha-pregnan-20-one) and pregnanolone (3alpha-hydroxy-5beta-pregnan-20-one), possess anxiolytic and sedative properties and show substitution for ...

Functional Peculiarities of MAP2 in DBA/2J Inbred Mice as a Component of Genetic Predisposition to Seizures

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2001
We compared the content of high molecular microtubule-associated protein-2 and its phosphorylation by cAMP- and Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinases in the brain of DBA/2J and C57Bl/6 inbred mice. The revealed differences in protein content and phosphorylation can be attributed to the mechanisms mediating audiogenic seizures in DBA/2J mice and ...

Social approach–avoidance behavior of inbred mouse strains towards DBA/2 mice

Brain Research, 2004
Little is known about the genetics of social approach-avoidance behaviors. We measured social approach-avoidance of prepubescent female C57BL/6J, DBA/2J, FVB/NJ, AKR/J, A/J, and BALB/cJ mice towards prepubescent DBA/2J female mice. C57BL/6J mice showed the greatest predominance of approach, while BALB/cJ mice showed the greatest predominance of ...
