Ionization coefficients for argon in a micro-discharge

Ionization coefficients are measured for electrons in a dc micro-discharge in argon from optical emission profiles. The micro-discharge is operated in the Townsend regime between two parallel-plate electrodes. Axial profiles of emission are obtained with sufficient resolution to provide spatial ionization coefficients.

A micro-discharge photoionization detector for micro-gas chromatography

We report on a small (20 × 10 mm) micromachined device for the detection of gases in micro-gas chromatography (GC). It incorporates a micro-discharge across a 20-μm gap, and a remote electrode in the micro cavity that generates an electrical signal corresponding to the photo-ionization of gaseous analytes in a stream of carrier gas.

Micro-discharge and surface flashover of insulators in vacuum

Recently surface flashover phenomena of insulators in vacuum were investigated with an impulse voltage (0.7/4 /spl mu/s). The test samples studied were 99.9% alumina specimens. The impulse voltage, current and luminosity waveforms were observed whether a flashover occurred or not.

Temporal Behaviour of Micro-discharge in Dielectric Barrier Discharges

A special dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) device consisting of two water electrodes has been designed. The temporal behaviour of the micro-discharge (filament) in the DBD in air at atmospheric pressure is measured by using an optical method. The nonsymmetrical characteristic of the filament has been discovered for the first time.
