Micro-discharge and surface flashover of insulators in vacuum
1999 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (Cat. No.99CH36319), 2003Recently surface flashover phenomena of insulators in vacuum were investigated with an impulse voltage (0.7/4 /spl mu/s). The test samples studied were 99.9% alumina specimens. The impulse voltage, current and luminosity waveforms were observed whether a flashover occurred or not.

A Novel Method for Manufacturing of Micro-Discharge Devices
International Thermal Spray Conference, 2002Abstract In this paper, atmospheric plasma spraying is used to produce metal-insulator-metal structures that emit ultraviolet light via electrical discharge when sufficient voltage is applied. The metal layers are sprayed with molybdenum alloy powders and the insulator, a 50 to 100 μm dielectric layer, is sprayed with zirconia powder ...

A micro-discharge photoionization detector for micro-gas chromatography
Microchimica Acta, 2013We report on a small (20 × 10 mm) micromachined device for the detection of gases in micro-gas chromatography (GC). It incorporates a micro-discharge across a 20-μm gap, and a remote electrode in the micro cavity that generates an electrical signal corresponding to the photo-ionization of gaseous analytes in a stream of carrier gas.

Influence of swarming pulsive micro discharge on the tree degradation
2000 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (Cat. No.00CH37132), 2002An experimental investigation has been performed to analyze influence of swarming pulsive micro discharge (SPMD) on tree degradation process. The discharge magnitude and luminous image at several phase angle areas of applied voltage were measured using an original measurement system.

Micro-discharge at strip edge of silicon microstrip sensors
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1996Abstract We have investigated the micro-discharge (micro-breakdown) phenomenon which is potentially a serious problem in operating in a high radiation environment. Numerical calculation of field strength for the model structure of the microstrip sensor gives us a quantitative understanding of each different cause of micro-discharge.

Influence of swarming pulsive micro discharge on tree degradation
Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2003Electrical treeing is one of the problems with insulating polymer materials. Therefore, much research of treeing has been carried out. One object of these researches is to investigate SPMD (swarming pulsive micro discharge). Pulse discharges decrease and disappear before tree initiation. It is considered that SPMD occurs by some factors in the void. In

Pulsed micro-discharge ambient ionization mass spectrometry
International Journal of Mass Spectrometry, 2018Abstract A method named pulsed micro-discharge ambient ionization mass spectrometry (PMD-AIMS) was developed for direct surface analysis with simple apparatus. In PMD-AIMS, micro-discharges is generated between a copper plate and a tungsten needle with pulsed high voltage applied, in which the analyte on the surface of copper plate is desorbed and ...
