Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...

Sandbar Breaches Control of the Biogeochemistry of a Micro-Estuary

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2019
Micro-estuaries in semi-arid areas, despite their small size (shallow depth of a few meters, length of a few kilometers, and a surface area of less than 1 km2) are important providers of ecosystem services.

Piezoelectric Direct Discharge: Devices and Applications

open access: yesPlasma, 2020
The piezoelectric direct discharge (PDD) is a comparatively new type of atmospheric pressure gaseous discharge for production of cold plasma. The generation of such discharge is possible using the piezoelectric cold plasma generator (PCPG) which ...

Gourd‐Inspired Design of Unit Cell with Multiple Gradients for Physiological‐Range Pressure Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gourd‐shaped micro‐dome arrays with coordinated modulus, conductivity, and geometric gradients co‐optimize sensitivity and linearity in piezoresistive tactile sensors. Under pressure, a solid upper dome embeds into a porous lower dome, triggering rapid contact‐area growth and series‐to‐parallel conduction, enabling unsaturated, intensity‐resolved ...

Erosion characterization of SiC and Ti3SiC2 on DIII-D using focused ion beam micro-trenches

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2019
Plasma-facing materials in future large-scale fusion reactors must be designed to withstand high heat fluxes from extreme off-normal events such as edge localized modes and unmitigated plasma disruptions.

Indirect Band Edge and Chain‐Locked Linear Dichroism in the Quasi‐1D Van der Waals Antiferromagnet AgCrP2S6

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
AgCrP2S6 reveals a momentum‐indirect band edge (≈1.35 eV) and chain‐locked linear dichroism: the first direct transitions emerge at 1.6–1.8 eV for E||a. Resonant Raman and photoemission corroborate this assignment. In ACPS/graphene heterostructures, photocurrent turns on above ≈1.5 eV and follows the same polarization selection rules (anisotropy ≈0.53),

Coated Electrode Performance in µEDM of Alloy Steel: A Parametric Optimization Study [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Micro-Electrical Discharge Machining (µEDM) precisely creates micron-scale holes, vital for components like fuel injectors and nozzles. The process relies on controlled electrical discharges between the tool (typically the cathode) and the workpiece ...
