Vascular and skeletal muscle oxidative capacity responses to continuous double and single leg cycling

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract The purpose of this work was to determine endothelial, microvascular, skeletal muscle oxidative capacity (SMOC) and cardiorespiratory responses to an acute bout of continuous single leg cycling (SLC) and double leg cycling (DLC). Ten recreationally active men and women volunteered to participate in this investigation and reported to the ...

Plant‐protein supplementation improves thermoregulatory responses and ameliorates markers of intestinal damage during exercise in the heat

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Exercise in the heat often causes gastrointestinal (GI) disturbances, which can impair performance. Single amino acid supplementation can attenuate gut damage and enhance exercise tolerance; however, the effectiveness of innate amino acid blends from plant‐based proteins remains underexplored.

Daily hot‐water immersion preserves altitude‐induced haemoglobin mass expansion following descent independent of erythropoietin

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract High‐altitude exposure increases haemoglobin mass (Hbmass), a key determinant of arterial oxygen‐carrying capacity, but following descent this adaptation can regress toward baseline within 7 days. Long‐term heat acclimation has emerged as an alternative stimulus for Hbmass expansion; however, whether post‐altitude passive‐heat exposure can ...

Prediabetic cardiomyopathy is attenuated by hypothalamic PVN oxytocin neuron activation

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend A long‐term high‐fat, high‐fructose diet induces prediabetes with insulin resistance, hyperinsulinaemia, elevated triglycerides and metabolic‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in male rats. Animals developed prediabetic cardiomyopathy characterized by diastolic dysfunction, interstitial fibrosis and tachycardia ...

Diagnostic Performance of Conventional Ultrasound Combined With Calcification Parameters in Soft Tissue Masses With Calcification: A Retrospective Study

open access: yesSonography, Volume 13, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to develop and validate an ultrasound‐based model integrating conventional ultrasound and calcification patterns (US‐CAL) for distinguishing benign from malignant calcified soft tissue masses. Methods This retrospective study analyzed 101 pathologically confirmed soft tissue masses (78 benign, 23 malignant) that ...

Evaluation of algorithms for accurate micro-doppler effects measurement in FMCW radar

open access: yes, 2023
Micro-Doppler effects are phenomena that occur because of micro-motion. A micro-motion is either a vibration, rotation, or acceleration which is small relative to the motion of the target. These effects can be used in order to characterize a target through their signature movement. These effects were captured using a Frequency Modulated Continous Wave (

Spatial Heterogeneity of Atlantic Water Upward Heat Flux in the Eurasian Basin Revealed by MOSAiC

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Atlantic Water (AW) is the main oceanic heat source in the Arctic and a key driver of sea ice retreat. Based on Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate microstructure data from the Eurasian Basin, we examined the spatial heterogeneity of AW upward heat flux.

Size Effect and Geometrical Effect of Solids in Micro-Indentation Test

open access: yes, 2003
Micro-indentation tests at scales of the order of sub-micron show that the measured hardness increases strongly with decreasing indent depth or indent size, which is frequently referred to as the size effect.
