Process Fingerprint in Micro-EDM Drilling. [PDF]

open access: yesMicromachines (Basel), 2019
The micro electrical discharge machining (micro-EDM) process is extensively used in aerospace, automotive, and biomedical industries for drilling small holes in difficult-to-machine materials. However, due to the complexity of the electrical discharge phenomena, optimization of the processing parameters and quality control are time-consuming operations.

Micro-EDM Numerical Simulation and Experimental Validation [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 10th International Conference on Multi-Material Micro Manufacture, 2013
This paper introduces a new method for simulating the micro-EDM process in order to predict tool wear. The tool and workpiece are defined by NURBS surfaces whose shapes result from an iterative crater-by-crater deformation technique driven by physical parameters. The simulation method is validated through a comparison with experimental data.

Iterative surface warping to shape craters in micro-EDM simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper introduces a new method for simulating the micro-EDM process in order to predict both the tool’s wear and the workpiece’s roughness. The tool and workpiece are defined by NURBS patches whose shapes result from an iterative crater-by-crater ...
