Influence of Micro-Geometry on Gear Scuffing

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2015
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Scuffing is an instantaneous failure which occurs when the meshed gear flanks undergo adhesive wear under extreme operating temperatures at medium- or high-speed conditions. It is one of the common failures in transmission gears, which tend to operate under long-duty cycle hours.

Micro-geometry lubrication and life ratings of rolling bearings

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2010
Following the pioneer work of Ertel-Grubin and Dowson and Higgingson, the field of elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) has witnessed a remarkable increase in new developments, notably the incorporation into the analysis of roughness and other surface features (micro-EHL).

Conforming Element Mesh for Realistic Textile Composite Micro-Geometry

American Society for Composites 2018, 2018
In recent years, several computer tools, e.g., DFMA, TexGen and WiseTex have been developed to derive realistic yarn-level micro-geometries for textile composites. However, due to numerical errors, the generated micro-geometries by these computer design tools have unavoidably exhibited artificial surface interferences or narrow gaps between yarns.

Changes in the micro-geometry of a rolling contact

Tribology International, 2007
The effect of the changes in the micro-geometry in a rolling contact on wear processes like running-in is of great interest. Recently, a wear measurement system-based on the comparison of local changes on the surface topography in a rolling contact has been developed. Some results of the rolling experiments are presented.

Interactive Music Modulation with Micro-Geometry of Object Epidermis

2017 Nicograph International (NicoInt), 2017
We developed an interactive system on music modulation. The system captures feature values of the object epidermis from the magnified pictures, and then modulates the tunes by controlling the possibility of modulation of velocity based on the features. It looks as if modulated tunes are instantly played just when users take pictures of object epidermis.

Model-based confocal fluorescence microscopy measurements of submerged micro geometries

Modeling Aspects in Optical Metrology VII, 2019
The challenging environment of in situ micro-geometry measurements in fluids (e.g. for laser- or electrochemical machining), such as refractive index fluctuations, small dimensions and high surface gradients, hinder many conventional measurement techniques.

Micro-Geometry of 3-D Braided Tubular Preform

Journal of Composite Materials, 2004
The micro-geometry of three-dimensional (3-D) braided tubular preform is more complex than that of rectangular one, and it is more difficult to analyze its architecture and mechanical properties theoretically as well. Through the advantage of digital element approach for textile technology, 3-D circular braiding process could be simulated dynamically ...

Convective Heat Transfer Correlations in Some Common Micro-Geometries

2010
This work summarizes some of our recent theoretical studies on convective heat transfer in micro-geometries. Only pure analytical solutions are presented here. At first, forced convection is studied for the following three geometries: microtube, microchannel between two parallel plates and microannulus between two concentric cylinders.
