Micro-geometry effects on the sliding friction transition in elastohydrodynamic lubrication
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2010An engineering scheme is proposed to calculate the effects of deterministic micro-geometry in sliding friction for the transition between full-film elastohydrodynamic and boundary lubrication regimes. The method combines the concepts of micro-geometry deformation from lubricated and/or dry contact conditions.

Micro Geometry Flaws in the Exchange of Design Data Using STEP
Concurrent Engineering, 1999A fundamental issue in concurrent engineering is sharing data among a vanety of commercially available computer-aided de sign, analysis, and manufacturing software tools. Geometry flaws often occur in the exchange of design data between dissimilar CAD systems and have multiplied with the ever-increasing complexity of product geometry.

Modelling of micro-geometry in elastohydrodynamic lubrication: Low-pressure valleys considerations
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2013Modelling deep valleys from surface micro-geometry in elastohydrodynamic lubrication has always been a challenge, since the solution of the Reynolds equation meets the cavitation condition [Formula: see text] also in that part of the contact. Full numerical methods in principle can handle situations where the pressure is nearly zero, although the ...

Optical methods for monitoring the micro-geometry of a surface
Measurement Techniques, 2009Optical methods of checking for defects in the exterior part of an object on the basis of micro-geometric features and of the surface are considered by means of an analysis of the radiation reflected by the surface, where the information parameters of this radiation are related by means of a parameter R q

Local Heat Transfer Measurements in Micro Geometries Using Liquid Crystal Thermography
ASME 3rd International Conference on Microchannels and Minichannels, Parts A and B, 2005A technique is described on the use of un-encapsulated thermochromic liquid crystals (TLC’s) to measure the local heat transfer coefficient in microchannel geometries. Microchannel heat transfer is at the heart of the microchannel heat sink, a recent technology aimed at managing the stringent thermal requirements of today’s high-end electronics.

Modeling and Numerical Simulation of Gaseous Flows in Micro Geometries
Fluids Engineering, 2003In this paper, our recent work in studying gaseous flow and heat transfer in micro geometries are summarized. Both continuum-based approaches and DSMC method is used to predict characteristics of micro flow in slip and transition flow regime. A new analytic solution for micro channel flow is proposed. The results in micro Couette flow, channel flow and

Determination of fundamental parameters for the cross-hatched cylinder liner micro-geometry
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2016This paper is part of a project aiming at optimizing the cylinder-liner/piston-ring contact performance: oil consumption, friction and wear. The surface micro-geometry has a major influence on these characteristics. Classical cylinder-liners display cross-hatched patterns.

Micro-Geometry Modeling Based on Monte Carlo and Permeability Prediction of Yarn
Polymers and Polymer Composites, 2014In order to simulate the resin filling process of Liquid Composite Modeling (LCM) such as Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) effectively, the permeability tensor field of preform is needed to be predicted accurately in advance. In the several existing micro-permeability prediction models, the fibers are assumed to be regularly arranged (quadratic or ...

On Micro-Geometry of Miniature Gears Manufactured by Wire Electrical Discharge Machining
Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2013This article presents the investigations on micro-geometry of fine pitch miniature spur gears manufactured by wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM). Effects of voltage, pulse-on time, pulse-off time, wire feed rate and cutting speed on total profile and accumulated pitch errors were studied using one-factor-at-a-time approach.
