Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Influence of the relative rotational speed on component features in micro rotary swaging

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2015
Micro rotary swaging is a cold forming process for production of micro components with determined geometry and surface. It is also possible to change the microstructure of wires and hence the material properties.

Micro-structuration effects on local magneto-transport in [Co/Pd]IrMn thin films

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
We measured the local magneto-transport (MT) signal with an out-of-plane magnetic field, including magneto-resistance (MR) and Extraordinary Hall effect (EHE), in exchange-biased [Co/Pd]IrMn thin multilayers that are micro-structured with a 100 μm window.

Micro- and macroscopic modeling of crowding and pushing in corridors

open access: yesNetworks and Heterogeneous Media, 2020
Experiments with pedestrians revealed that the geometry of the domain, as well as the incentive of pedestrians to reach a target as fast as possible have a strong influence on the overall dynamics.

Modeling pulsed laser micromachining of micro geometries using machine-learning techniques [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Manufacturing, 2013
A wide range of opportunities are emerging in the micro-system technology sector for laser micro-machining systems, because they are capable of processing various types of materials with micro-scale precision. However, few process datasets and machine-learning techniques are optimized for this industrial task.

Trace Nickel Activated Biphasic Core‐CuOii/Shell‐CuOi Secondary Microspheres Enable Room Temperature Parts‐Per‐Trillion‐Level NO2 Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An idea of designing novel sensors is proposed by creating appropriate Schottky barriers and vacancies between isomorphous Core‐CuOii/ Shell‐CuOi secondary microspheres and enhancing catalytic and spill‐over effects, and electronegativity via spontaneous biphasic separation, self‐assembly, and trace‐Ni‐doping.
