The Lubrication Effect of Micro-Pits on Parallel Sliding Faces of SiC in Water

Tribology Transactions, 2002
Silicon carbide is regarded as a promising material for sliding bearings and mechanical seals working in water. In order to improve its load carrying capacity (or anti-seizure ability) in water, micro-pits were formed on one of the contact surfaces by ion reaction etching.

An Investigation on the Influence of Misalignment on Micro-pitting of a Spur Gear Pair

Tribology Letters, 2015
This study investigates the impacts of the angular misalignment that is tangent to the plane of action of spur gears on the contact fatigue life of micro-pitting crack nucleation using a computational approach. The governing equations of the mixed elastohydrodynamic lubrication are solved to determine the surface traction distributions.

Interaction between Two Pre-Existing Micro Pits on Pitting Propagation

CORROSION 2012, 2012
Abstract In the petroleum industry, pipeline failures are mostly the result of localized pitting corrosion which demonstrates the worst-case scenario for leaks as compared to metal loss due to uniform corrosion. When pitting nucleation occurs, numerous pits are generated within a short interval.

Predicting Micro-Pitting Occurrence in Wind Turbine Gearbox Roller Bearings

STLE/ASME 2010 International Joint Tribology Conference, 2010
The standard rolling contact fatigue life calculations currently in use by the rolling bearing industry is based on the first occurrence of subsurface-initiated spalling of a raceway or roller surface. However, wind turbine gearbox roller bearings have been suffering from another damage mode, which manifests itself as micro-pitting.

Effects of lubricant additives on micro-pitting behaviours of gear metals

For achievement of carbon neutrality by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, the increase of the range of electric vehicles is important. One promising method is reducing churning loss in transaxles by viscosity reduction of lubricants. However, it generally leads to thin oil films, which often results in micro-pitting, especially at gear contacts. Since
