XRF, PIXE and SR-XRF studies on prehistoric gold provenance

open access: yesUISPP Journal, 2019
One of the most efficient methods to authenticate ancient gold artifacts and find their provenance is to identify trace elements – Sn, Sb, Te, PGA (especially Pt, Ir-Os, Pd), considered as “fingerprints” of a geological source, as ancient metallurgy ...

A Mineralogical Context for the Organic Matter in the Paris Meteorite Determined by A Multi-Technique Analysis

open access: yesLife, 2019
This study is a multi-technique investigation of the Paris carbonaceous chondrite directly applied on two selected 500 × 500 µm² areas of a millimetric fragment, without any chemical extraction.

Major and Trace Element Composition Differences Revealed in Porcine Intestine by Dynamic Analysis and MeV Ion Microscopy

open access: yesphysica status solidi (a), Volume 222, Issue 12, June 2025.
Herein, C, N, and Ca concentration images in dry porcine intestine are used to determine trace element concentrations ex vivo. Physiologically relevant concentrations in biological tissue, in the in vivo, state are of the order of μmol L−1 and mmol L−1.

Direct Dating and Physico-Chemical Analyses Cast Doubts on the Coexistence of Humans and Dwarf Hippos in Cyprus.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
In the Mediterranean, the island dwarf megafaunas became extinct around the end of the Pleistocene, during a period of rapid and global climate change. In Cyprus, this coincided with the first human presence on the island, as attested by the rock shelter

Lifespan differences between queens and workers are not explained by rates of molecular damage. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The biological processes that underlie senescence are of universal biological importance, yet they remain poorly understood. A popular theory proposes that senescence is the result of limited investment into mechanisms involved in the prevention and ...

Chasing (macro)elements in microinvertebrates: A new methodological approach for quantitative and qualitative analyses of phosphorus by PIXE (Particle‐Induced X‐Ray Emission) applied to glacier tardigrades

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, Page 1160-1172, June 2025.
Abstract Microinvertebrates in harsh environments often occupy the highest trophic levels and directly influence the turnover of macroelements. However, the investigation of their body elemental composition is complicated due to their low dry weight or sample size hindering the application of established methodological approaches.
