Tailoring Functional Properties of Ti–Ni–Cu Shape Memory Alloy Thin Films for MEMS Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A comprehensive study of critical parameters required to develop well‐performing Ti–Ni–Cu thin film shape memory alloy microactuators is provided. Materials science and device integration aspects are integrated by addressing structural and physical relationships using complementary characterization techniques as well as a practical fabrication solution

Film-Cooling Enhancement In High-Pressure Turbine Of An Aircraft Engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
This paper studies the effect of adding vortex generator (VG) at the upstream position of film-holes on a flat-plate simulated turbine blade surface. They are placed at three different positions (0.0m, 0.005m, 0.015m away from filmholes) to investigate ...

Growth of non-polar (11-20) InGaN quantum dots by metal organic vapour phase epitaxy using a two temperature method

open access: yesAPL Materials, 2014
Non-polar (11-20) InGaN quantum dots (QDs) were grown by metal organic vapour phase epitaxy. An InGaN epilayer was grown and subjected to a temperature ramp in a nitrogen and ammonia environment before the growth of the GaN capping layer.

The three-dimensional flow organization past a micro-ramp in a supersonic boundary layer [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids, 2012
The three-dimensional instantaneous flow organization in the near wake of a micro-ramp interacting with a Mach 2.0 supersonic turbulent boundary layer is studied using tomographic particle image velocimetry. The mean flow reveals a wake with approximately circular cross section dominated by a pair of counter-rotating streamwise vortices generating a ...

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

The Open acidification Tank Controller: An open-source device for the control of pH and temperature in ocean acidification experiments

open access: yesHardwareX, 2023
Ocean acidification is the process by which the increase in atmospheric CO2 causes a corresponding increase in seawater CO2 and results in lowering the seawater pH.

Enhancing Optoelectronic Properties in Phthalocyanine‐Based SURMOFs: Synthesis of ABAB Linkers by Avoiding Statistical Condensation with Tailored Building Blocks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel phthalocyanine (PC)‐based metal–organic framework (MOFs) is synthesized using ditopic PC linkers obtained through regioselective statistical condensation. The resulting MOF exhibits significant improvements in electronic absorption, thereby enhancing the material's performance in light harvesting and energy conversion.

Applying Caputo and Caputo–Fabrizio fractional derivatives on a viscothermoelastic circular microplate under Lord–Shulman theorem

open access: yesAIP Advances
This study introduces a novel mathematical model to investigate heat conduction through a circular micro-plate that is isotropic, homogeneous, and viscothermoelastic. Based on the Kirchhoff–Love plate hypothesis, the governing differential equations have
