Comparison of Micro-Vortex Generators in Supersonic Flows
6th AIAA Flow Control Conference, 2012An experimental comparison of several vortex generator geometries was conducted at Mach 1.5, 1.8, and 2.5 to better understand downstream vortex development as a function of device shape and Mach number. The devices had heights less than that of the boundary-layer ("micro"-vortex generators) and were either vane-shaped or of the alternative microramp ...

Review of Micro Vortex Generators in High-Speed Flow
49th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting including the New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2011A review of the state-of-the-knowledge of micro vortex generators (MVGs) and their effect on separated shock/boundary-layer interactions is provided. MVGs are thought to be effective for reducing the separation zone. However, details of how they affect the separation zone remain to be understood properly. In addition, metrics on how the MVGs affect the

Supersonic boundary-layer interactions with various micro-vortex generator geometries
The Aeronautical Journal, 2009AbstractVarious types of micro-vortex generators (μVGs) are investigated for control of a supersonic turbulent boundary layer subject to an oblique shock impingement, which causes flow separation. The micro-vortex generators are embedded in the boundary layer to avoid excessive wave drag while still creating strong streamwise vortices to energise the ...

Micro-vortex generators for shock wave/boundary layer interactions
Progress in Aerospace Sciences, 2015Abstract The effect of micro-vortex generators (MVGs) on shock wave/boundary layer interactions (SBLIs) has been reviewed. Experimental and computational evidence has been presented about the dominant role it has in the suppression of shock-induced separation the pair of counter-rotating streamwise vortices, which appears downstream of the types of ...

Control effect of micro vortex generators on attached cavitation instability
Physics of Fluids, 2019The control effect of micro-vortex generators (VGs) on the instability of attached cavitation was investigated in a series of experiments. The micro-VGs, located at the leading edge of a NACA0015 hydrofoil, were used to alter the near-wall flow and control the attached cavitation dynamics.

Unsteady characteristics of jet combustion in a supersonic combustor with a micro-vortex generator
Modern Physics Letters B, 2021To clarify the effect of the micro-vortex generator on the unsteady characteristics of jet combustion, a set of experiments had been carried out in a cavity-based supersonic combustor. Based on the advanced combustion diagnosis techniques, the ignition process, initial cavity-stabilized flame and dynamic flame development at the initial equivalence ...

Micro-Vortex Generator Flow Control for Supersonic Engine Inlets
45th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2007To investigate the flow control potential of micro-vortex generators for supersonic mixed-compression inlets, a basic model experiment has been designed which combines a normal shock wave with a subsonic diffuser. The diffuser is formed by a simple expansion corner, with a divergence angle of 6 degrees.

Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, 2021
Abstract In this study, the placement of a micro-vortex generator (VG) upstream of the film cooling hole is proposed to improve the film cooling performance. The film cooling effectiveness and flow characteristics at three blowing ratios (M = 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8) are measured by using pressure-sensitive paint (PSP) and particle image velocimetry (PIV),

Comparison of Bleed and Micro-Vortex Generator Effects on Supersonic Boundary-Layers
50th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting including the New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2012An experimental study of bleed and vortex generators in supersonic ow has been conducted. Methods were developed to analyze and directly compare the two systems' effects on turbulent boundary layers to better understand their potential to mitigate ow separation.

Control effect of micro vortex generators on leading edge of attached cavitation
Physics of Fluids, 2019In this study, we investigate the effects of micro vortex generators (VGs) installed close to the leading edge of a quasi-two-dimensional NACA0015 hydrofoil under cavitating and non-cavitating conditions. Our aim is to improve physical insight into interaction mechanisms of the boundary layer with the formation and stability of partial cavities.
