Implicit LES for Supersonic Microramp Vortex Generator: New Discoveries and New Mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper serves as a summary of our recent work on LES for supersonic MVG. An implicitly implemented large eddy simulation (ILES) by using the fifth-order WENO scheme is applied to study the flow around the microramp vortex generator (MVG) at Mach 2.5 ...

Testing the Accuracy of the Cell-Set Model Applied on Vane-Type Sub-Boundary Layer Vortex Generators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Vortex Generators (VGs) are applied before the expected region of separation of the boundary layer in order to delay or remove the flow separation. Although their height is usually similar to that of the boundary layer, in some applications, lower VGs ...

A Definition of Vortex Vector and Vortex

open access: yes, 2017
Vortex is ubiquitous in nature. However, there is not a consensus on the vortex definition in fluid dynamics. Lack of mathematical definition has caused considerable confusions in visualizing and understanding the coherent vortical structures in ...

LIUTEX ANALYSIS BY POD AND DMD IN TURBULENT FLOW AFTER/ IN MICRO VORTEX GENERATOR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Although vortex has been studied more than one hundred year, we still have not had universally accepted definition. A few well-known vortex identification methods are introduced ,∆, 2, criteria to identify coherent vortex structures the last ...

Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

Oxide‐Free Titanium Coatings by Wire Arc Spraying in a Silane‐Doped Inert Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A silane‐doped argon atmosphere enables the production of oxide‐free titanium coatings via twin‐wire arc spraying at ambient pressure. This innovative approach eliminates residual oxygen, creating process conditions that prevent oxidation and nitride formation.

The Effect of Location and Shape of Vortex Generators on Aerodynamic Characteristics of a NACA 4415 Airfoil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
This study examines the flow behavior and lift coefficient variations of a NACA 4415 airfoil using different vortex generator configurations. Experimental investigations are conducted in a subsonic wind tunnel at a Reynolds number of 1.8 x 105.

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
