A Pressure Microsensor Made of Parylene‐C for Use as Medical Implant
A monolithic parylene‐C pressure sensor with gold strain gauges provides 6.2 μV$\mu{\rm V}$·mmHg$\cdot{\rm mmHg}$−1$^{-1}$ sensitivity. The morphology of a sputtered thin film strain sensor is granular/columnar, which results in a high gauge factor of 7.5. Thermal bonding and parylene‐C coating create a hermetic cavity.

3D Printing of Stretchable, Compressible and Conductive Porous Polyurethane for Soft Robotics
A 3D‐printable porous dopamine‐polyurethane acrylate elastomer results in conductive, stretchable, and compressible structures that can be metallized in situ through catechol‐mediated silver reduction. The resulting material function as both compliant soft robot with a and strain sensors without complex assemblies, enabling fully 3D‐printed soft ...

Rocks inherently contain some micro-cracks. The existence of initial micro-cracks introduces weakness to the rock specimen and hence affects the strength and deformation behavior of rocks. This paper numerically investigates the influence of initial micro-crack damage on the strength and deformation behavior and the associated micro-cracking process of

Effect of a micro-crack on the kinked macro-crack
Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 2018Abstract The solution of an infinite plane containing an arbitrarily located micro-crack and a kinked macro-crack is presented based on the distributed dislocation technique (DDT). The stress field, the plastic zone of the macro-crack tip (PZ) and the stress intensity factors at the macro-crack tip (SIFs) are obtained.

Influence of a micro-crack on the finite macro-crack
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2017Abstract The numerical solution of an infinite elastic plane containing a macro-crack and an arbitrary oriented micro-crack is presented based on the distributed dislocation technique and Gauss-Chebyshev quadrature method, which is verified by finite element method.

A computational model of peridynamic theory for deflecting behavior of crack propagation with micro-cracks [PDF]
The critical effect of micro level defects should be examined at macro level to better understand the fracture behaviors of engineering materials. This study investigates the branching and deflecting behavior of a macro (main) crack in presence of ...

Analysis and simulation of cracks and micro cracks in PV cells
2013 14th International Conference on Thermal, Mechanical and Multi-Physics Simulation and Experiments in Microelectronics and Microsystems (EuroSimE), 2013The goal in this analysis is to undestand more about the progressing of preexisting cracks in silicon solar cells under different enviromental loads. This enables to estimate critical crack sizes and reduce the losses and to improve realibility. In this work we present a 2D finite element model of encapsulated silicon solar cells containing cracks on ...

Interacting micro-cracks near the tip in the process zone of a macro-crack
Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 1987For a linearly elastic and isotropic solid containing two or more cracks, cavities and other interacting defects of complex geometries, a method called ''the method of pseudo-tractions'' has been recently proposed by the authors [e.g. Int. J. Solids Struct.
