International Journal of Material Forming, 2009
Titanium is a popular material for medico components, primarily due to its excellent properties as regards strength, resistance to corrosion and biocompatibility. The disadvantages are mainly the low formability at room temperature and the material cost. As an alternative to conventional machining, the component can be plastically formed by a number of

A miniaturized machhine for micro-sheet forming
International Journal of Material Forming, 2010A new miniaturized machine was developed for micro-forming of thin sheets. A piezoelectric actuator was used to give the stroke and a load cell to support the die. This way, the punch position and speed were precisely controlled and the forming forces were measured during processing.

On Micro Forming by Hydro Spark Forming Method
Materials Science Forum, 2007This paper proposes a seamless microforming technique from 100 micrometer order bulging all the way down to micrometer-order embossments by using hydro spark forming method. Sub-millimeter order bulging with 300 and 100 m diameter aluminum thin foils are demonstrated to be easily available without accurate positioning as in the conventional methods ...

Punching of noncircular micro-holes and development of micro-forming
Precision Engineering, 2007In this paper, vibration-EDM technology was introduced by the vibrating worktable designed to fabricate noncircular micro-electrodes and micro die-openings using wire electro-discharge grinding (WEDG). Micro punches and micro die-openings with different clearances were fabricated by controlling the spark gap in micro electrical discharge machining ...

Superplastic micro-forming of microstructures
Proceedings IEEE Micro Electro Mechanical Systems An Investigation of Micro Structures, Sensors, Actuators, Machines and Robotic Systems, 2002Superplastic micro-forming processes have been applied to forming and fabrication of micromechanical components. Selected materials are a fine grained superplastic Al-78Zn alloy, pure iron as a transformation superplastic material, and amorphous LaAlNi, ZrAlCu alloys which exhibit a supercooled liquid state. With these materials, microformability tests

ICALEO 2007: 26th International Congress on Laser Materials Processing, Laser Microprocessing and Nanomanufacturing, 2007
Laser forming has been shown effective as a non-contact bending technique for 0.15 mm thickness cantilever beams made from Neyoro G, a high-strength, high-reflectivity, high thermal conductivity material. The current work reports on efforts to extend laser forming to miniature 3-D axisymmetric shapes from similar thickness originally flat discs.

Study on Micro Blasting of Glass for Micro Channel Forming
Advanced Materials Research, 2009The production of a compact chemical reactor called a micro channel device requires a glass microfabrication technique since it involves the formation of a micro channel on the surface of a glass substrate. We propose a direct mask drawing and micro blasting technique, designed to form a micro channel on a glass substrate.

Progress on micro-jetting forming
International Technology and Innovation Conference 2006 (ITIC 2006), 2006With the precise controlling capability of the shapes, velocity and drop locations of micro-droplets, micro-jetting forming technology is an attractive method for patterning and fabricating objects directly from design or image files without the need for masks, patterns, or dies, and it is a popular research subject in Advanced Manufacturing Technology.
