Deterministic polishing of micro geometries

CIRP Annals, 2020
Abstract Ultraprecision polishing of miniature components and features with small curvature radii is limited by surface accessibility, availability of suitable tools and the capability to control material removal with sufficient spatial resolution. This paper presents the development of an approach for the application of nearly deterministic micro ...

3D “Micro’’-Geometry Modeling From Image Cues

Volume 1: 22nd Computers and Information in Engineering Conference, 2002
This paper presents an approach to construct 3D microstructure of a surface from a single image. By integrating our technique with traditional CAD tools, the surface modeling results have clear ‘micro’ surface structures. Firstly, a multi-pyramid image segmentation algorithm is applied on the single image to extract the objective region.

Mechanics of textile composites: Micro-geometry

Composites Science and Technology, 2008
Abstract Textile fabric geometry determines textile composite properties. Textile process mechanics determines fabric geometry. In previous papers, the authors proposed a digital element model to generate textile composite geometry by simulating the textile process.

Ultra-smooth micro-optical components of various geometries

Optics Letters, 2019
A dry-etching-assisted femtosecond laser lithography technology is proposed to in-site fabricate micro-optical components with an ultra-smooth three-dimensional continuous profile on a non-planar substrate. Owing to the nanometric resolution of femtosecond laser multi-photon polymerization and dry etching, smooth micro-optical components can be ...

Vision-based extraction of micro object geometry for micro world observation

Proceedings of the 21st IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37510), 2004
Operators suffer much difficulty in manipulating micro/nano-sized objects without the assistance of human-machine interfaces due to scaling effects. We developed an immersive visual interface for observation of micro-objects under an optical microscope. As the image of the microscope is two-dimensional, so it is hard to observe the workspace in the 3-D

Influence of Micro-Geometry on Gear Scuffing

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2015
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Scuffing is an instantaneous failure which occurs when the meshed gear flanks undergo adhesive wear under extreme operating temperatures at medium- or high-speed conditions. It is one of the common failures in transmission gears, which tend to operate under long-duty cycle hours.
