Micro milling characteristics of LS-WEDM fabricated helical and corrugated micro end mill
International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2020Abstract Micro milling offers a high potential for fabricating three-dimensional micro structure, such as micro grooves, micro channels and micro dimples. However, the fabrication of solid micro end mills with hard materials and complex structures poses many challenges.

Simulation on the Wear of Micro Mill Cutter in Micro Milling
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2010In this paper, the prediction model of micro-milling cutters in milling process is established to simulate the wear depth in the software DEFORM-3D, the chips growing up an forming process. The paper studies the wear level during the cutting process of micro milling amount of feed per tooth and spindle speed.

Diamond milling of micro-optics
IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine, 2006A diamond mill (a tiny end mill) can cut aspheric lenses and mirrors with diameters smaller than 0.5 mm. The cutting tool has a two-dimensional shape and is spun about the axis of the surface to be cut. As the spinning tool is plunged into the substrate, it cuts a radially symmetric surface to sub-micron accuracies.

In this paper, electrochemical machining (ECM) for fabricating micro structures is presented. By applying ultra short pulses, dissolution of a workpiece can be restricted to the region very close to an electrode. Using this method, 3D micro structures were machined on stainless steel.

Micro-EDM Milling of Micro Compressor Prototype
First International Conference on Integration and Commercialization of Micro and Nanosystems, Parts A and B, 2007Micro power system is becoming more and more important for micro- and nano-scale system. The fast development of MEMS (Micro Electromechanical Systems) has strongly enhanced the application of new harder work materials. The fabrication of metallic 3D microstructures has been one of the most attractive topics of micro machining.

Machining NiTi micro-parts by micro-milling
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2008Abstract The machinability of NiTi by milling has been examined using solid carbide end milling cutters. First results were obtained from machining simple slots applying TiAlN-coated tools with a diameter of 0.4 mm. The machining process was evaluated in terms of tool wear, cutting forces and machining quality.

Micro-EDM Milling of Micro Platinum Hemisphere
2006 1st IEEE International Conference on Nano/Micro Engineered and Molecular Systems, 2006Micro-EDM milling has become one of the powerful means of 3D micromachining for MEMS. However, for micro- EDM milling, there isn't a general electrode wear compensation strategy matched to arbitrary materials of workpiece and electrode. In this paper, the machinability of platinum metal is evaluated by taking latent heat of fusion and evaporation into ...

Abstract Diamond micro mills are very suitable to process the nickel-based superalloy GH4169 because of its high stiffness and edge sharpness. The geometric parameters of micro-end-mills have a significant effect on the milling process. In order to determine the optimal tool geometric parameters, a micro-end-mill was designed and used to simulate the
