Leveraging Atomic Disorder to Modulate Hydrogen Storage Thermodynamics in Intermetallics

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces atomic disorder into TiFe‐based intermetallics through multi‐element substitution to tune hydrogen storage properties. A series of B2‐structured, compositionally complex intermetallics are synthesized and evaluated, revealing that increased atomic disorder enhances hydride stability.

Designing High‐Strength and High‐Ductility Cast Mg–Zn–Al–Mn–Sn Alloys via τ‐Mg32(Al,Zn)49 Phase Tuning and Twin Boundary Toughening Optimisation

open access: yesRare Metals, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Achieving a simultaneous enhancement of strength and ductility remains a critical bottleneck for the large‐scale and cost‐effective engineering application of magnesium alloys. In this work, guided by first‐principles calculations, we tailored the τ‐Mg32(Al,Zn)49 phase and optimised twin boundary, thereby designing and successfully ...

Effect of microalloying on hydrogen embrittlement resistance of 125ksi grade petroleum pipe

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In this study, the influence of incorporating equimolar proportions of vanadium, titanium, and niobium microalloying elements into C110 steel on the hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of oil casing steel was investigated at a strength level of 125 ksi.

Effect of microalloying elements Ti and Nb on impact property of high-strength engineering structural steel

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2018
Comparing the properties of Q345E steels of two different components, it is found that the yield strength and tensile strength of Q345E increase with the additions of microalloying elements Nb and Ti, but the low-temperature impact performance reduces ...

The bi-layered precipitate phase zeta in the Al-Ag alloy system

open access: yes, 2017
The Al-Ag system is thought to be a well-understood model system used to study diffusional phase transformations in alloys. Here we report the existence of a new precipitate phase, zeta, in this classical system using scanning transmission electron ...

Electrical properties and microstructure fractal analysis of magnesium-modified aluminium-silicate ceramics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The addition of Mg2(NO)3 and some active additives, composed of Al salts, to the mixtures of kaolinite and bentonite can provide clay compositions which, after sintering at high temperatures, produce very porous ceramics with microcrystalline and ...

Fabrication‐Driven Oxidation Pathways in Y/Hf‐Modified High‐Entropy Alloys: From Elemental Segregation to Oxide Homogeneity

open access: yesRare Metals, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study elucidates the oxidation mechanisms governing Y/Hf‐doped AlCoCrFeNiTi high‐entropy alloys (HEAs) and reveals the pivotal role of fabrication processes in dictating high‐temperature oxidation behavior. We demonstrate that casting and spark plasma sintering (SPS) promote Y/Hf segregation, resulting in heterogeneous oxide formation and

Effect of V–Ti multi-microalloying on enhancing hydrogen embrittlement resistance in hot-stamping steel

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Hydrogen embrittlement (HE) has become a significant concern that limits the usage of ultra-high strength hot-stamping steel. In this work, the utilization of a novel approach employing V–Ti multi-microalloying has yielded substantial improvements in the

Effect of microalloying on the toughness of metallic glasses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The effect of microalloying on the toughness of Cu-Ti-based metallic glasses is explored. Minor additions of Si and Sn in glass former Cu_(47)Ti_(34)Zr_(11)Ni_8 known to improve glass-forming ability are found here to sharply decrease toughness. The drop
