Microaneurysms in diabetes mellitus

Acta Diabetologica Latina, 1972
The structural characteristics of and similarities between retinal, glomerular and conjunctival microaneurysms are detailed. Predisposing factors are reviewed. A combination of hypertriglyceridemia and local rheological factors such as venular stasis or capillary ischaemia frequently leads to the formation of microaneurysms. This combination of factors

Diabetic Capillary Microaneurysms of the Retina

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1961
Saccular dilations arising from one side of the retinal capillaries are part of the typical pathology of diabetic retinopathy and are known as capillary microaneurysms. They were first described by Nettleship 1 in 1888. However, it seems that little attention was paid to Nettleship's discovery and capillary microaneurysms were rediscovered by ...

Poiseuille Flow of a Non-Local Non-Newtonian Fluid with Wall Slip: A First Step in Modeling Cerebral Microaneurysms

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2018
Cerebral aneurysms and microaneurysms are abnormal vascular dilatations with high risk of rupture. An aneurysmal rupture could cause permanent disability and even death. Finding and treating aneurysms before their rupture is very difficult since symptoms

Peripheral Retinal Microaneurysms in Chronic Leukemia

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1975
Of 25 patients with chronic leukemia, there was clinical evidence of peripheral retinal microaneurysm formation in two of eight patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and six of 17 patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia. There was no proliferative retinopathy in any of the 25 patients.

Evaluation of preprocessing methods for microaneurysm detection

2013 8th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA), 2013
In this paper, we provide a comparative evaluation of preprocessing methods for microaneurysm detection in color fundus images. Our aim is to achieve high sensitivity values in the candidate extraction phase. This requirement can be fulfilled if we select an appropriate preprocessing method for the candidate extractor.

Automatic Detection of Microaneurysms in Retinal Images

Proceedings of the International Conference on Video and Image Processing, 2017
Early stage symptom of the diabetic retinopathy is Microaneurysms (MAs). Diabetic retinopathy is graded with the help of number of MAs in fundus image. Detection of MAs in initial stage of diabetic retinopathy may prevent the vision loss. In this work a new approach is proposed for finding the MAs in fundus image.

Arterial Microaneurysms in Polyarteritis Nodosa

New England Journal of Medicine, 2006
A 19-year-old man presented with a 10-month history of Raynaud's phenomenon, fever, abdominal pain, and hypertension. On examination, he had multiple subcutaneous nodules on his forehead, and his blood pressure was 150/100 mm Hg. Laboratory findings included a normal urine sediment, an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, mild anemia, and ...

Aneurysmal and Microaneurysmal “Angiogram-negative” Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Neurosurgery, 1995
The source of bleeding remains obscure in most cases of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) with a negative angiogram. From January 1, 1989, to July 1, 1993, 40 patients were admitted to the Massachusetts General Hospital with angiogram-negative SAH; 9 of these patients underwent surgical exploration. In seven of these explorations, an arterial source of the
