Plant‐Derived Melatonin Inhibits Bacterial Virulence via CpxA/R Two‐Component System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Plant‐derived melatonin is sensed by CpxAE48/T51, which inhibits the phosphorylation cascade transmission from CpxAH240 to CpxRD52, resulting in the inhibition of DNA‐binding capacity of CpxR and subsequent T3SS genes expression in Pst DC3000. ABSTRACT In defending against pathogens, plants deploy diverse secondary metabolites and signaling molecules ...

Engineering a Virus‐Derived X Family DNA Polymerase FvPolX for de novo DNA Synthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, a Faustovirus‐derived polymerase (FvPolX) is engineered based on structural and sequence analysis of PolX enzymes. The optimal mutants demonstrate substantially enhanced catalytic activity toward dNTPs and 3′‐ONH2‐dNTPs compared to the wild‐type enzyme.

Survival and cell culturability of biocontrol Pseudomonas fluorescens CHA0 in lysimeter effluent water and utilization of a deleterious genetic modification to study the impact of the strain on numbers of resident culturable bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Little is known on the behavior of soil-inoculated biocontrol pseudomonads once they are transported to deeper soil layers and/or groundwater levels after a heavy rain.

Enzymatic Basis for the Oxidative Branch of Aromatic Amino Acid Fermentation Leading to p‐cresol Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In anaerobic bacteria, tyrosine serves as an electron donor in the oxidative Stickland fermentation branch, generating p‐hydroxyphenylacetate, ATP and reduced ferredoxin for decarboxylation into p‐cresol. ABSTRACT The phenolic metabolite p‐cresol is a byproduct of tyrosine fermentation by certain strictly anaerobic bacteria, including the human gut ...

Corn silage inoculated with microbial additives

open access: yes, 2014
This study aimed to determine the quality of corn silage inoculated with microbial additives. Therefore, three experiments were carried out. In the first year, in experimental silos, four inoculants that comprised the following treatments were tested: forage inoculated with Lactobacillus buchneri (LB), Propionibacterium acidipropionici (PA), Bacillus ...

Self‐Amplifying Redox Cycle Triggers Ferroptosis/Cuproptosis Synergy for Enhanced Bacterial Eradication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study designs a targeted nanocomposite (ct@HMCF‐Dex) that responds to acidic infection microenvironments, releasing components which amplify oxidative stress. It disrupts bacterial redox balance, chelates metals to sustain lipid peroxidation, and synergistically induces cuproptosis/ferroptosis‐like death.

Advanced Dental Composite Technology via Bisilanized Dual‐Action Nanofillers for Biofilm Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal research strategy has led to the development of an innovative resin‐based composite (RBC) with dual antibacterial action. The S_CM‐RBC formula showed strong antibiofilm activity, excellent mechanical strength, and biosafety. It effectively controlled oral bacteria in prevention of caries recurrence, and maintained pulp health in a rat ...
