High rates of daytime river metabolism are an underestimated component of carbon cycling
Diel variations in the isotopic composition of dissolved oxygen in river water reveal high rates of gross primary production and respiration rates in 14 rivers across three biomes, suggesting that the microbial loop in rivers may cycle carbon more ...

Microbial Loop Dynamics in Antarctic Sea-Ice [PDF]
<p>Sea-ice is a predominant feature of polar oceans and exerts a unique influence on marine ecosystems. The annual circumpolar expansion of sea-ice around Antarctica provides a stable platform for the in situ colonisation and growth of a diverse assemblage of microbes that are integral to the energy base of the Southern Ocean. An active microbial

Integrating Vibrio natriegens for Photon Manipulation in Living Lighting Devices
Rationalization of genetic and material engineering tools has enabled the engineering of fluorescent Vibrio natriegens (V. natriegens) to fabricate straightforward, highly emissive and stable V. natriegens‐silicones color filters for the first red‐emitting bacteria‐hybrid light‐emitting diodes. This pinpoints V. natriegens as a high‐performance protein
