Observation of Brownian elastohydrodynamic forces acting on confined soft colloids [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Confined motions in complex environments are ubiquitous in microbiology. These situations invariably involve the intricate coupling between fluid flow, soft boundaries, surface forces and fluctuations. In the present study, such a coupling is investigated using a novel method combining holographic microscopy and advanced statistical inference ...

Cryo‐EM Analysis of a Tri‐Heme Cytochrome‐Associated RC‐LH1 Complex from the Marine Photoheterotrophic Bacterium Dinoroseobacter Shibae

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cryo‐EM reveals a closed 17‐subunit LH ring encircling the RC‐LH1 complex in Dinoroseobacter shibae, featuring a novel helix‐turn‐helix subunit bridging RC and LH. Mg2⁺/Ca2⁺ stabilizes the complex, while periplasmic Cyt c₂ mediates electron transfer via a tri‐heme Cyt to the special pair of bacteriochlorophylls. Insights into energy/electron efficiency

Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors in the management of Waldenström macroglobulinemia

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, Volume 98, Issue 2, Page 338-347, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitors have taken a central role in the management of patients with Waldenström macroglobulinemia and are the only agents approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat these patients. Although associated with high rates of durable responses, unmet needs with BTK inhibitor therapy include ...

Foundations for reconstructing early microbial life [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
For more than 3.5 billion years, life experienced dramatic environmental extremes on Earth. These include shifts from oxygen-less to over-oxygenated atmospheres and cycling between hothouse conditions and global glaciations. Meanwhile, an ecological revolution took place.

Confinement by Liquid‐Liquid Interface Replicates In Vivo Neutrophil Deformations and Elicits Bleb‐Based Migration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Leukocytes sense mechanical cues provided by surrounding cells to regulate motility. Replicating the confining pressures applied by soft, elastic tissues in vitro is challenging. Here, the use of liquid‐liquid interfaces is introduced to model forces exerted by surrounding cells. Confining pressures are tunable by controlling interfacial curvature, and
