Aqueous Two‐Phase Bioinks for Discrete Packing and Compartmentalization of 3D Bioprinted Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Aqueous two‐phase systems (ATPS) enable the formation of biomimetic interfaces crucial for tissue engineering. However, clinical translation remains limited by the challenge of precisely controlling cellular compartmentalization. Here, we developed ATPS biomaterial inks for 3D bioprinting allowing tuneable droplet formation via NaCl modulation.

Direct numerical simulations of mass transfer in square microchannels for liquid-liquid slug flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Microreactors for the development of liquid-liquid processes are promising technologies since they are supposed to offer an enhancement of mass transfer compared to conventional devices due to the increase of the surface/volume ratio.

High‐Throughput Generation of Tumor Spheroids via Droplet Microfluidics for siRNA‐Loaded Nanomedicine Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A droplet microfluidic platform is employed to enable high‐throughput, uniform tumor spheroid generation for evaluating siRNA‐loaded nanomedicines at the protein level. As a proof of concept, breast (MCF‐7) and brain (U87 MG) cancer cell lines are investigated using this platform, revealing penetration profiles and therapeutic responses between the two

Heat Transfer Enhancement and Entropy Generation of Nanofluids Laminar Convection in Microchannels with Flow Control Devices

open access: yesEntropy, 2016
The heat transfer enhancement and entropy generation of Al2O3-water nanofluids laminar convective flow in the microchannels with flow control devices (cylinder, rectangle, protrusion, and v-groove) were investigated in this research.

Hydrophilic polymeric coatings for enhanced, serial-siphon based flow control on centrifugal lab-on-disc platforms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, we implement rotational flow control on a polymeric microfluidic “lab-on-a-disc” device by combining serial siphoning and capillary valving for sequential release of on-board stored liquid reagents.

Numerical study of the coupling between reaction and mass transfer for liquid-liquid slug flow in square microchannels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
While the benefits of miniaturisation on processes have been widely demonstrated, its impact on microfluidics and local mechanisms such as mass transfer is still little understood.

Simvastatin Restores Uteroplacental Hemodynamics and Trophoblast Function in Obstetric Antiphospholipid Syndrome in a Placenta‐on‐a‐Chip Model

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Simvastatin mitigates placental hypoperfusion in OAPS by ameliorating abnormal uteromaternal hemodynamics and enhancing trophoblast invasion via optimized endothelial cell interactions under pathological shear stress, as evidenced by results from a placenta‐on‐a‐chip platform.
