Microsensors in microchemistry

Microchemical Journal, 1987
Abstract Ion-selective microelectrodes with tip diameters of about 0.06 μm can be prepared. They may exhibit detection limits of 10−9M Ca2+ in a typical intracellular electrolyte background (125 mM K+). Measurements in 10−14-liter volumes are conceivable which would correspond to single free ions in the detection volume.

Microchemistry: An appraisal

Mikrochimica Acta, 1953
The early history of microchemistry supports the view that this branch of chemistry has now reached the half-century mark. It is now fully established as a scientific field, and it is of interest to review its nature, origins and present position, and to glance briefly at its probable future development.
