The making of novel ecosystems: A process‐based framework for measurement, analysis and application

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Ecological novelty is emerging rapidly due to global change drivers such as climate shifts, species introductions, defaunation, and land‐use transformation. These changes challenge how we assess, understand and manage ecosystems in the Anthropocene.

Impact of Forest Fragmentation and Associated Edge Effects on Tropical Forest Biodiversity in North West Madagascar, Assessed via Ecoacoustics

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Deforestation in the tropics is a major threat to forest‐specialist animals, many of which are already threatened with extinction. We assessed how forest fragmentation and its associated edge‐effects impact animal biodiversity in Northwest Madagascar using soundscape analysis and acoustic indices.

Effects of soil physical properties on dung beetle assemblages in pasture landscapes of the Brazilian Cerrado

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
We assessed the effect of the type of soil texture (loamy sand and sandy loam) and its physical properties on dung beetle species assemblages in a pastureland region of the Brazilian Cerrado. We found a reduction in the total and paracoprid beetle abundances in loamy sand soil. Furthermore, the increase of soil compaction negatively affected the entire
