The homeobox gene MaH1 governs microcycle conidiation for increased conidial yield by mediating transcription of conidiation pattern shift-related genes in Metarhizium acridum

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2019
Conidiation capacity and conidial quality are very important for the production and application of mycopesticides. Most filamentous ascomycetous fungi have two distinct patterns of conidiation. Conidiation through microcycle conidiation proceeds to more rapidly achieve a maximum of conidial yield than normal conidiation and hence is of greater merit ...

Microcycle conidiation in Penicillium urticae: an ultrastructural investigation of spherical spore growth

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1975
A cultivation system has been developed for Penicillium urticae (NRRL 2159A) which yields 'microcycle' conidiation in submerged culture. Spherical growth of spores was initiated by incubation at 37 °C in a growth-favoring medium. Transfer of these enlarged spores to a nitrogen-poor medium at 35 °C resulted in synchronous germination and limited ...

Microcycle conidiation and the conidial properties in the entomopathogenic fungusMetarhizium acridumon agar medium

Biocontrol Science and Technology, 2010
Abstract Conidiation of the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium acridum on agar media was investigated. M. acridum CQMa102 exhibits two different conidiation patterns on agar media: normal conidiation in which conidia are formed on extended hyphae and microcycle conidiation in which conidiation occurs directly after conidia germination.

The microcyclic conidial stage of Coniochaeta pulveracea and its effect on selected biological interactions

Folia Microbiologica, 2015
Coniochaeta pulveracea is a dimorphic lignicolous fungus that has mostly been isolated from decaying wood. However, relatively little work was conducted on the conditions for the dimorphic switch or the biological interactions of the fungus in its yeast-like microcyclic growth phase.

Microcycle conidiation induced by partial nitrogen deprivation in Neurospora crassa

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1984
Premature macroconidiation occurs at the tips of germ tubes elongated as presumptive conidiophores from macroconidia of Neurospora crassa incubated at 37 °C in nitrogen-limited shaken cultures. The use of different nitrogen sources indicated that this differentiation process could be induced by ammonium deprivation.

D-Glucose soluble starch, a novel medium for inducing microcyclic conidiation in Aspergillus

Mycological Research, 1992
d -Glucose soluble starch (D-GSS) is a new growth medium for the induction of microcyclic conidiation in Aspergillus . Four different aspergilli, A. niveus, A. tamarii, A. terreus and Aspergillus sp. produced conidiophores, vesicles, sterigmata and conidia within 18–24 h of incubation with no intervening vegetative mycelium.

Heat-induced changes in respiratory pathways and mitochondrial structure during microcycle conidiation of Neurospora crassa

Archives of Microbiology, 1980
Changes in both respiratory pathways and mitochondrial structure of Neurospora crassa occurred under conditions of microcycle conidiation. Upon heat-treatment at 46 degrees C, conidia developed a highly cyanide-insensitive, hydroxamate-sensitive respiration associated with morphological alterations in mitochondrial membranes; such changes were time ...

In vitro growth and microcycle conidiation of Idriella bolleyi, a biocontrol agent of cereal pathogens

Mycological Research, 1994
The minimum nutrient requirements for growth of Idriella (= Microdochium ) bolleyi in shaken liquid culture were mineral salts, nitrate nitrogen, glucose and thiamine. Typical batch culture kinetics were displayed in this medium and were assessed by culture turbidity when sodium alginate was used to induce growth by dispersed mycelia. Conidia were

Microcycle conidiation and medusa head conidiophores of aspergilli on indoor construction materials and air filters from hospitals

Mycologia, 2007
Microcycle conidiation and microniche colonization by aspergilli was observed in-situ on various indoor construction and finishing materials. Microcycle conidiation, direct conidiogenesis from a conidium or spore with minimal intervening hyphal development, for several decades has been considered a survival mechanism during stress for a variety of ...

Microcycle conidiation in pycnidial cirrhii of Phomopsis viticola Sacc. Induced by elemental sulfur

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1983
On a synthetic medium containing elemental sulfur (SMGS), the growth of Phomopsis viticola Sacc. decreased considerably but pycnidia formation was highly stimulated. Secondary pycnidia, developed from spores in the cirrhii themselves, were observed. Formation of pycnidia directly from spores can be described as a microcycle stage.
