Nitrous oxide (N 2 O) synthesis by Microcystis aeruginosa

open access: yes, 2022
Abstract. Pure cultures of Microcystis aeruginosa synthesized nitrous oxide (N2O) when supplied with nitrite (NO2-) in darkness (198.9 nmol·g-DW-1·h-1 after 24 hours) and illumination (163.1 nmol∙g-DW-1∙h-1 after 24 hours) whereas N2O production was negligible in abiotic controls supplied with NO2- and in cultures deprived of exogenous nitrogen.

Dog Poisonings Associated with a Microcystis aeruginosa Bloom in the Netherlands

open access: yesToxins, 2013
In early autumn 2011, three dogs died after they had been exposed to a Microcystis aeruginosa bloom on Lake Amstelmeer, The Netherlands. The cyanobacterial scum from the lake contained up to 5.27 × 103 μg g−1 dry-weight microcystin, the vomit of one of ...

Role of antioxidative enzymes in toxic bloom forming Cyanobacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The antioxidative enzymes catalase and ascorbate peroxidase in toxic bloom forming cyanobacteria play a pioneer role in scavenging free radicals, which are generated as an outcome of photosynthesis and respiration.

Physiological comparison between colonial and unicellular forms of Microcystis aeruginosa Kutz. (Cyanobacteria) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In order to gain insight into the bloom sustainment of colonial Microcystis aeruginosa Katz., physiological characterizations were undertaken in this study. Compared with unicellular Microcystis, colonial Microcystis phenotypes exhibited a higher maximum
