Clinical and Radiological Comparison of Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic and Percutaneous Transforaminal Endoscopic Discectomy in the Treatment of Lumbar Spinal Degenerative Disease

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 4, Page 1105-1113, April 2025.
Both PTED and UBE surgeries can achieve satisfactory improvement in symptoms and function for patients with lumbar spinal degenerative disease. However, UBE technique can achieve a better decompression area to restore the normal shape of the dural sac but may lead to greater paraspinal muscle damage and atrophy.

Relationship between biomechanical and biochemical parameters of spinal motion segments and recurrent lumbar disc herniation

open access: yesХирургия позвоночника, 2017
Objective. To identify natural radiological parameters of degenerative spinal motion segments and biochemical changes in intervertebral disc tissues, which have a significant connection with the hernia recurrence after microdiscectomy.

Use of minimally invasive ultrasound transducer during tubular microdiscectomy

open access: yesNeurosurgical focus: Video
Minimally invasive ultrasound during tubular microdiscectomy is novel. The authors report the technique during surgery for L5–S1 herniated disc. Ultrasound provided real-time visualization of the pathology and neural elements.

Long‐Term Headache Outcome and Radiological Correlates in Patients With Intracranial Hypotension

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 32, Issue 2, February 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Headache is the most common presenting symptom of intracranial hypotension (IH), and it usually has orthostatic features. However, the outcome of IH and the persistence and characteristics of headache are still overlooked. Methods In this cohort study, patients diagnosed with IH in our institute between 2018 and 2024 were included ...

Learning Curve of Uniportal Compared With Biportal Endoscopic Techniques for the Treatment of Lumbar Disc Herniation

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 2, Page 513-524, February 2025.
The learning process of two surgeons in UFE/UBE surgery and the assessment outcomes. Surgeon 1 learned UBE first and then UFE; Surgeon 2 learned UFE first and then UBE. The line graphs for UBE and UFE performed by Surgeon 1 and Surgeon 2 showed a consistent reduction of the operation time with a trend towards stabilization.

Navigation-assisted extraforaminal lumbar disc microdiscectomy: Technical note

open access: yesJournal of Craniovertebral Junction and Spine, 2020
Background: Extraforaminal lumbar disc herniation (ELDH) amounts of 7%–12% of all lumbar disc herniations. Although they have already been widely described, an optimal treatment is still under discussion in the literature.
