Spontaneous Brillouin scattering in a microdroplet

Physical Review A, 1990
Spontaneous Brillouin scattering in a micrometer-sized liquid droplet is analyzed from first principles, using the spherical-wave normal-mode basis. Instead of the conservation of linear momentum, this interaction is governed by a selection rule due to the conservation of angular momentum. The Brillouin spectrum is then calculated, both for observation

Injection seeding of lasing in microdroplets

Optics Letters, 1997
Injection seeding of lasing has been achieved in both small (~20-mu; m radius) and larger (~35-mu; m radius) dye-doped microdroplets. Seeding is effective in enhancing the intensity from one lasing mode that normally occurs because of the droplet morphology.

Microdroplet Chemistry with Unactivated Droplets

Journal of the American Chemical Society
Microdroplet chemistry has attracted much attention owing to its ability to accelerate otherwise slow reactions and to trigger thermodynamically forbidden reactions. The cause of this unique behavior is the intrinsic properties of the droplets, such as the spontaneously generated electric field on the droplet surface. However, some have argued that the

Measurement of the hydrodynamic resistance of microdroplets

Lab on a Chip, 2016
Here, we demonstrate a novel method of measurement which determines precisely the hydrodynamic resistance of a droplet flowing through a channel.

Phototaxis Flight of Microdroplets in a Laser

Physical Review Letters
Phototaxis phenomenon is fundamental and critical for optical manipulation of micro-objects. Here, we report the size-dependent negative or positive phototaxis behaviors for microdroplets containing interfacial energy absorber flying in a laser. The critical diameters for such negative-to-positive turnover are studied through both experiments and ...

Calibrating the Oxidative Capacity of Microdroplets

Angewandte Chemie
AbstractRecently, redox chemical transformations have been reported to occur spontaneously in microdroplets. The origins of such novel reactivity are still debated, and any systematic correlation of the oxidative/reductive yield with the reactivity of the reactant is yet to be established.
