Recent Advances (2023–2025) of Capillary Electrophoresis‐Mass Spectrometry (CE‐MS) for Top‐Down Proteomics

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Top‐down proteomics (TDP) characterizes proteoforms in cells, tissues, and biofluids, in discovery mode and on a global scale, requiring analytical tools with high peak capacity for proteoform separation and high sensitivity for proteoform detection, given the extremely high proteoform complexity and wide proteoform concentration dynamic range.

Microbiome‐mediated chemical communication in insects: Implications for pest management

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Microbiome–semiochemical interactions involve the following processes: direct microbial synthesis, host gene regulation, precursor biotransformation, microbiome modulation and indirect ecological signaling. Abstract Insects rely on semiochemicals to regulate aggregation, mating, foraging, and host selection. This review synthesizes evidence that insect‐

Microextraction techniques combined with capillary electrophoresis in bioanalysis

open access: yesAnalytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2012
Over the past two decades, many environmentally sustainable sample-preparation techniques have been proposed, with the objective of reducing the use of toxic organic solvents or substituting these with environmentally friendly alternatives. Microextraction techniques (MEs), in which only a small amount of organic solvent is used, have several ...

Determination of steroid hormones in biological and environmental samples using green microextraction techniques: An overview [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Residues of steroid hormones have become a cause for concern because they can affect the biological activity of non-target organisms. Steroid hormones are a potential risk for wildlife and humans through the consumption of contaminated food or water ...

Application of Microextraction-Based Techniques for Screening-Controlled Drugs in Forensic Context—A Review

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
The analysis of controlled drugs in forensic matrices, i.e., urine, blood, plasma, saliva, and hair, is one of the current hot topics in the clinical and toxicological context. The use of microextraction-based approaches has gained considerable notoriety,

Stable flies preferentially oviposit on sites offering conspecific eggs with egg‐derived bacterial semiochemicals

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Stable flies preferentially oviposit on sites offering conspecific eggs with egg‐derived airborne semiochemicals. Egg‐borne bacterial symbionts, and Serratia marcescens in particular, produce odorants which attract gravid female flies and elicit oviposition.

Two Metschnikowia nectar yeast species have similar volatile profiles but elicit differential foraging in bee pollinators

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Yeasts that specialize in flower nectar play an important role in pollination ecology. Metschnikowia reukaufii and Metschnikowia koreensis were the most prevalent nectar yeasts found in our field sites. Bee pollinators exhibited different behavioural responses to nectar yeasts in field experiments. Bees visited more flowers with M.

Do aphid endosymbiotic bacteria influence parasitoid searching behaviour through changes in aphid honeydew production?

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Hamiltonella defensa infection increases honeydew production in certain aphid genotypes, potentially modifying aphid feeding behaviour. Parasitoid wasps, Aphidius ervi, are more attracted to honeydew from H. defensa‐infected aphids; though larger honeydew amounts may slightly deter searching.
