Microfacies Interpretation: Summarizing Microfacies Criteria: Microfacies Types

2009
Microfacies studies aim for the recognition of overall patterns that reflect the history of carbonate rocks, by means of a thorough examination of their sedimentological and paleontological characteristics. The previous chapters have shown which thin-section criteria are used in describing the microfacies of limestones. The evaluation of microfacies in

Depositional environments and microfacies of the upper Turonian–Maastrichtian Kawagarh Formation, Kalachitta Range, Lesser Himalayas, Pakistan

, 2021
The upper Turonian–Maastrichtian Kawagarh Formation represents a thick sequence of carbonates in the Kalachitta Range, Pakistan and it is the only stratigraphic record of Late Cretaceous sedimentation in northwestern Lesser Himalayas.

Facies and microfacies of slope deposits

CATENA, 1999
Abstract This paper reviews the facies and microfacies of the main types of slope deposits. Lamination and sorting, when preserved, are good evidence for overland flow. Features due to deformation (folds, boudins, coatings and tails due to the rotation of clasts) are associated with the early stages of deformation in earth slides.

Quantitative Microfacies Analysis

2004
The previous chapters of this book introduced various aspects of recognizing qualitative microfacies criteria and their signifcance, whereas this chapter will treat quantitative criteria. The first part describes selected principles of grain-size analysis and demonstrates the potential of grain size in the context of microfacies studies.

Reservoir microfacies analysis exploiting microscopic image processing and classification algorithms applied to carbonate and sandstone reservoirs

, 2020
Two case studies are presented that apply a new quantitative micro-facies analysis method to multiple thin section photographs from the carbonate and sandstone reservoirs of two giant fields: (1) the Permo-Triassic carbonate reservoir formation from the ...

Microfacies and Archaeology

2004
Archaeologists are faced with the problem of the provenance of materials used in ancient buildings, sculptures or ceramics. Archaeometric methods applied to source studies include analyses of element distributions, stable isotope patterns and studies of the mineralogical and petrographical composition (Herz 1987; Riederer 1987; Herz and Waelkens 1988 ...

Microfacies Analysis: Methods

2009
This chapter summarizes field work studies, sampling strategies and laboratoy methods relevant to microfacies analysis. A precise field record of geological and paleontological data as well as sampling strategies that consider the vertical and lateral variations in these data are vital for the success of microfacies studies.

Microfacies Data: Fabrics

2004
Having discussed matrix and grain types of carbonate rocks in previous chapters, this chapter focuses on the fabrics constructed by rock constituents. The term fabric includes textural as well as structural criteria. Most fabrics reflect depositional controls or early diagenetic processes. This chapter starts with the description of common depositional

New Perspectives in Microfacies

2004
A rapid evolution in our understanding of carbonate rocks was triggered in the mid- to late 50’s by the discovery of carbonate reservoirs in various parts of the world, followed by intensive research of recent carbonates. Modern and ancient carbonate environments, diagenetic processes and facies models were studied between about 1955 and 1965.
