Domed‐rim microbial polygons and their preservation potential
Microbially induced sedimentary structures (MISS) derive through interactions between minerals and microorganisms. We define a domed‐rim MISS, morphologically distinct from abiotic mud cracks and demonstrate its potential for long‐term preservation. These structures represent promising biosignatures in ancient environments on Earth and potentially Mars.

Colapso tectónico en las Zonas Externas Béticas Orientales durante el Paleogeno-Aquitaniense (Alicante, SE España) [PDF]
Six Paleogene-Aquitanian successions have been reconstructed in the Alicante area (eastern External Betic Zone). The lithofacies association evidences “catastrophic” syn-sedimentary tectonic processes consisting of slumps, mega-olisthostromes, “pillow ...

Sedimentation of the Lower Cretaceous Xiagou formation and Its Response to Regional Tectonics in the Qingxi Sag, Jiuquan Basin, NW China [PDF]
Under the constraint of an isochronous sequence stratigraphic framework, sediment infill of the Xiagou Formation reflects the overall control of dynamic tectonic movements and episodic sedimentations in the Qingxi Sag.

Assessing the intensity of Late Quaternary humid phases in the Nefud Desert, northern Arabia
ABSTRACT The climate history of the major dryland zones of the world, such as the Saharo–Arabian Desert belt, plays a key role in the dispersal of early humans through these intermittently inhospitable regions. Here, we assess the relative intensity of Late Quaternary humid phases in northern Arabia through lithological, geochemical, palaeoecological ...

Facies Modelling of Mishrif Formation in Selected Wells of Tuba Oil Field, Southern Iraq [PDF]
The current study includes building a 3D geological facies model of the Mishrif Formation (Cenomanian-Early Turonian) in Tuba oilfield, southern Iraq. Microfacies study and core samples examination reveals the occurrence of six facies associations within

Geoarchaeological Investigation of Early Neolithic Lagoonal Fringe Landscapes in the Netherlands
ABSTRACT Coastal wetlands have historically been portrayed as too marginal for early crop cultivation during the Mesolithic–Neolithic transition due to their dynamic hydrology, low elevation, and poor drainage. However, growing evidence suggests that these environments played a crucial role in the spread of agriculture. We examined buried and submerged

Ostracods, rock facies and magnetic susceptibility of the Hanonet Formation / Trois-Fontaines Formation boundary interval (Early Givetian) at the Mont d’Haurs (Givet, France) [PDF]
Approximately 870 carapaces, valves and fragments of ostracods were extracted from 26 samples collected in the Hanonet Formation (= Fm) and Trois-Fontaines Fm in a section located along the southwestern rampart of the historically entrenched military ...

The palaeoecology of two Scottish encrinites: Jurassic crinoid assemblages from the Trotternish Peninsula, Isle of Skye, Scotland [PDF]
Despite a long history of investigation, articulate crinoids from the Jurassic of Scotland have not received great attention compared to their counterparts in Southern England or continental Europe; this is thought to be largely due to poor preservation.

Base‐level cycles serve as a crucial reference for the stratigraphic sedimentology. In lacustrine basins, high‐frequency base‐level changes contribute to significant diversity and complexity in sequences and sedimentary infilling. The sequences′ infill and facies distribution in lacustrine basins differ greatly from marine deposits.
