Creek‐imposed gradients reshape plant allometric traits and sediment retention in a salt marsh

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Tidal creeks impose strong hydrological and geomorphic gradients that shape plant traits and sediment dynamics in salt marshes. However, how creek‐imposed gradients reorganize plant allometric strategies and how these trait shifts regulate sediment retention remain poorly quantified.

Microplastics as a Silent Threat to Child Neurodevelopment: Evidence and Perspectives on Autism

open access: yesInternational Journal of Developmental Neuroscience, Volume 86, Issue 4, June 2026.
Microplastics and nanoplastics can likely cross various biological barriers and promote the development of oxidative stress and neuroinflammation, and they can also interfere with crucial events during brain development. Although none of these effects are causally linked to autism spectrum disorders, the microparticles and nanoparticles are the first ...

Warming enhances protozooplankton top‐down control and nutrient competition

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Protozooplankton regulate microbial food webs through top‐down control and nutrient cycling, yet their grazing impacts under ocean warming, particularly in subsurface chlorophyll maximum (SCM) layers, remain poorly understood. This study investigated spatial and seasonal variability in protozooplankton grazing in the northern East China Sea ...

The Use of FN‐Silk Networks as Extracellular Matrix‐Mimicking Support for 3D In Vitro Breast Cancer Models Improved the Model's Reproducibility in Drug Sensitivity

open access: yesMedComm – Biomaterials and Applications, Volume 5, Issue 2, June 2026.
Chemotherapy treatment experiments were conducted on three breast cancer cell lines cultured in 2D, spheroids, and the novel 3D support: FN‐silk networks. The breast cancer cells cultured in FN‐silk networks were generally less sensitive to the drugs tested, compared to 2D cultures, potentially giving higher clinical relevance.

Shaping Function: Polymeric 3D Systems With Unconventional Geometries for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 33, 12 June 2026.
Particle shape is a key design parameter governing biological interactions. Advances in fabrication enable precise control over anisotropy and compartmentalization, allowing modulation of cellular uptake, transport, and biodistribution, ultimately enhancing therapeutic performance. ABSTRACT Polymer geometry is a primary determinant of physical behavior
